  • Cautionary Tale - Crayon's family get's ~$1M

Trayvon Martin’s family settles wrongful death lawsuit with Sanford, Florida, Homeowner’s association
Benjamin Crump, the lawyer representing Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton,
Trayvon’s parents says that while this ends litigation with the Retreat at Twin Lakes,
plans for a civil suit against Zimmerman continue.

Trayvon Martin’s parents have settled a wrongful death claim with the homeowners association of the Retreat at Twin Lakes,
the Florida housing complex where their son was shot and killed by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.
The undisclosed sum is believed to be more than $1 million,
    the Orlando Sentinel reported.

HOAs suck, but they don't deserve this.

They'll spend it all on block parties, hoes, drugs, and strippers.

      Final Thoughts

This horse has been beaten to death, resurrected and beaten to death again - over and over.

There is an important lesson here for all of us though.

At a very simplistic level we have a conflict involving two males that resulted in a death.
The survivor was armed and the deceased was not.
In this situation we are only allowed to use lethal force when in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm.

Particularly when the deceased combatant is unarmed.
There would seem to be some uncertainty as to how things might have transpired without the use of lethal force.

      We will never know.
But the situation lends itself to interpretation that can end in being problematic for the survivor.

The only one who profits here is the lawyer. The bulk of the award/settlement is eaten up in costs and fees. This case is one of the poster children for what is wrong with the civil legal system.

I'm just a bit curious that now that the family got their pay day, are they really concerned about the criminal trial?

Your right, we'll never know but I surmise that Zimmerman would have been severely and probably permanently injured or most likely killed had he not shot, Ovomits son would have walked away free, and it wouldn't have made page 26 of the Florida Gazette.

The family I'm almost certain could care less about the criminal trial, they are in it for the money and if I was on the Homeowners Association I'd fight giving them a single thin dime.

This settlement goes a long way toward ending the neighborhood watch programs. Feel any safer? I'm standing my ground.

In some areas maybe but not in my neck of the woods. In fact the NH programs here actually encourage lawful CCW.

Seems to be for a lot of people especially the 47%ers. Although everyone seems to get excited about it if you get a pile for doing nothing that you really don't deserve. Course then a million isn't enough, always more, more, more.

Seems to be a cultural link as well if my profiling skills aren't lying to me too.
