  • New owner of AO 1911

Just picked up a new Auto-Ordnance 1911A1. Anything in particular I should know about these for must have modifications or general service requirements?

Kel-Tec KSG is on it's way too! The woman there said my gun should be born in the next 10 weeks!

I'm told that the AO is top notch right out of the box. Very accurate and very well put together. Excellent fit and finish.

I've not seen one of the new ones in person YET but my day is coming.

We're big on pictures here and if you seen one 1911 you want to see em all, so first chance you get break out the camera.

Love it. Thanks for posting. I love that style hammer, just does something for me.

I could maybe see some sights in your future but if you can see them I'd leave em looking GI.

I'd probably have to mess with the grips too but that's a personal sickness with me.

I think that gun looks great. The only thing it needs is some holster wear and some signs that it has seen some serious use. It has that look like it will get even better with age.

Hasn't fired a shot yet. Need to get some range time in. I thought about sights but I think the crappy GI sights will actually make good practice as they are difficult to see. I have a couple Gov't issue holsters to go with it that are from the right era. I was tossing around between this or the Ruger 1911 but figured this was more classic and fun as it is not intended for competition or carry.

I wouldn't have a problem carrying it. In fact I know I would from time to time.

I have those sights on my Springfield Armory 1911. They are getting harder to see every year. Was going to have some larger sights put on, but I think I'll just add some laser grips. I'd rather have the guide rod laser installed, but I hear they have a lot of problems with them.

I agree with Bawanna on both counts.
Anybody know of a good quality stainless rendition of that style hammer? Any help would be appreciated, I've a new toy that one would look great on.

I would carry it but I have a PM9 just for that purpose!

I really like the old style classic .45's. Other than a set of grips like Bawanna said (or maybe 2 or 3 sets of grips) I'd leave it just as it is. I seriously looked at the AO .45's before I got my RIA GI model.

You can get used to the sights with plenty of practice which will just break it in and add to the fun. Go off the deep end and get yourself 500-1000 rounds of .45 and after you have shot that you'll be feeling real good about the whole thing.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Congrats on a very nice looking 1911. I'm jealous. I want one, no two, no three.
I've lost my memory, and I can't remember where I put it.

Thanks all! I've got my eyes set on 2k rounds of .45 but I just have to convince the wife first! I just bought thousands of other rounds so it might be hard to tell her I need .45 now in mass quantities. Especially when it's a whole lot more cash than 9mm or .40

Tell her that Palmetto State Armory has it at cheap price with free shipping until Memorial Day and you have to order it quick. It's just gonna get more expensive later so best to buy now. Tell your wife it's my fault. I just told mine that my order was your fault for showing you new gun. She needs to be happy I didn't buy a new gun.

Check it out. I just ordered some too.

thanks for the link but it looks like all the cheap stuff is out of stock now! The best price I can seem to find online is about $292.50 per thousand rounds, reloaded, shipped. If I can beat that I think she'll let me order two thousand. I almost have her but then she goes on about not enough jewelry!
