  • Is the K9 really that heavy to ccw!

I have been reading a lot of articles on the k9 and a good majority of them talk about how good the gun is but then tell you it is heavy and not a good choice for concealed carry. The gun is 23 ounces empty and compared to its plastic counter parts "cw9 is 16 ounces" it is heavier. My Ruger sp101 is 27 ounces empty and a lot of people carry this fine five shot revolver. So is the k9 really to heavy for concealed carry? I don't know but I carry my sp101 a lot with no problems. I have a police trade in k9 that should be here monday. Guess I will form my own opinion and re post my thoughts.

I would say it's heavy for pocket carry but I don't pocket carry.

For conventional belt carry IWB or OWB it will go unnoticed. I carried my steel K40 on my ankle until I acquired my PM45.

I don't think the weight is an issue at all if you carry in a holster on your belt.

Yep. What he said. The K9 is not a pocket gun. I carry one off duty almost exclusively. I dont even know its there with a good belt and OWB holster. It's my favorite gun to shoot too. I love the feel, the quality, and accuracy.

That said. I dont see the point. My PM9 with the +1 magazine has the same capacity!! It weighs nothing compared to the K9, and has the exact same firepower. Soooo...the K9 is pointless.

Even so, the K9 is my carry gun. Logical thinking would tell you its a stupid choice, but you'll see. Theres something special about that gun. The way it feels in your hand. A heavy, solid chunk of steel. Theres something to be said for that. I trust my PM9 absolutely, but just feel better armed with the K9. It's all in my head, but who cares. The K9 rocks, plain and simple.

        Great carry gun for IWB.

I use a Crossbreed SuperTuck and it disappears and is comfortable for all day carry.

Then there are those of us who carry a full sized pistol. I think the size and weight preclude pocket carry, but what ever. Even that is relative, because as you say many of us carry a revolver like that. I know my round guns are heavier than the K40 (sorry don't do 9mm) that I will own sooner rather than later. Right now aside from my pocket guns my smallest is my P45, the rest are service sized and up to a 5"bbl 1911. Remember what Clint Smith says "a handgun is supposed to be comforting, not comfortable". There are exceptions to every rule though.

All of your comments are pretty much what I am thinking. May not be the lightest kahr pistol out there but I also think there is something to be said for steel guns.

Actually there's a lot to be said for steel guns. My Kahr rides on my ankle, a steel 1911 rides on my belt. It just feels right.

When people say the K series are heavy I too believe they are talking pocket carry.
In a front pocket, particularly without a reinforce gun belt,
the K guns or a all steel J-Frame for that matter are really a bit heavy.

On a belt a 22/25 oz gun is no issue at all and near perfect.
Plus I think the all steel guns handle recoil better.
Particularly when you move up to a 40 or 357 Magnum.

No doubt in my mind the k series was never made to be a pocket gun. can u carry it in ur pocket, probably so BUT WHY. some of these small ass special material wheel guns we shove in our pockets but they dohn't compare in size and wieght of a K series either, and if u want to shoot a hand cannon just shoot one the Smoith J frames in titanium and aluminum. talk about a nut buster. Probab ly would even make a goldwiner flinch even. Just sayin
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

No it isn't. It is however much too pretty, unless you get the all black model. Then it is just right... size, weight and appearance wise.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

I carry my K9 in a Galco IWB holster everyday. Not too heavy, conceals well, and feels right.

I carry my MK40 Elite on a belt all the time.
                        It's hardly noticeable.
I originally bought it as a pocket gun, but rarely carry it that way.
If Cher and I really could turn back time,
I would rather have gotten the larger K40 Elite.

And a T40 may still be in the cards...

Twenty three oz is only heavy compared to a polymer .380. Compared to a K-frame revolver it is a featherweight. Many undercover cops carried snub model 10 S&W revolvers for years; they weighed 32 not 23 oz!
