Kahr Shop Trigger

I have an old style K9, the only Kahr I own, and I love it. I am considering upgrades and was wondering if anyone can tell me from personal experience, the difference between the old K9 tirgger and the Elite trigger. I am considering sending it into the Kahr Shop for a trigger job, but want to know if it's worth it.

Don't know what the non-elite trigger feels like.

Thanks for the responses, it sounds like a ton of money for 1/8".

I have both triggers, an early K9 and a late K9 that was sent in for a trigger change. This cost $125 then. The new trigger is the best one of all seven of my Kahrs. The felt difference isn't just the length of pull. The trigger is much smoother, feels a bit lighter and breaks cleaner than the other triggers. Maybe they do more than switch parts. IMHO, if this is going to be your CCW then it's worth it, but if your K9 is simply a range toy, then maybe not.

I can tell u this and this is no correction to anyonne. The only differencein a NYPD trigge ris the pull of 1/2"over 3/8". It is no lighter, or smoother. Now can one get a smoother trigger in one or other. I am certain that all trigger springs are not the exact same poundage also but kahr does not put in a different poundage trigger spring in the NYPD kahrs, they are the same and what we have in our newer kahrs today.. 6-7.5#

One is goingto spend $125plus postage back and remember u need to send it back to kahr also. Ask urself is it worth $200 to gain an 1/8" inch less travel. If so, go for it. My used NYPD K9 is as smooth as any kahr triggerI have on my PM9's. MOre than likely when u upgrade u will get new trigger springs and trigger bar spring, but they are identical to what u have now just new. The changeis the trigger and the trigger bar.

We read at times where one has two identical kahrs and one feels alot smoother. That is just soething that happens with guns. They are allin their own way alittle different. Most getsmoother with rounds down range and for some reason some out of the bax are that way already.

Heres an idea. Take the $125 and invest it in practice ammo and get used to the trigger you have. I speculate that you will be a better shooter than if you just reduce the trigger stroke by 1/8th inch.

I just went to the range and shot 50 rounds of jhp,, ball and some really old fmj. K9 felt great.

In my opinion, invest in more magazines, ammo and night sights.

two kahrs with both triggersin them and I shotmy nypd K9 far better than my two PM9. It ain't the trigger system in my case..

I fear that my post may have come across as condescending; that was not my intent. The point that I was trying to make is that muscle memory and getting used to the break point of whatever trigger you have is more important than where the trigger actually breaks. It is easy to get caught up in the tool when it is the skill of the carpender that dictates the results.

I am comfortable shooting the standard Kahr trigger....but I must admit, I definitely prefer the Elite trigger.

Thanks again for the input. The cost for the Elite trigger is crazy if you only pick up 1/8", and yes money would be better spent on ammo and practice. This is my primary CCW and I am of the belief that you can pack anything you want, but you still have to place the shot. Too many people out there think you just need to get close IMO. That being said, I am very proficient with the current weapon, but if I can improve it to make me shoot better, i.e. trigger job, then that is what I'm looking for. I don't think 1/8" will do anything for me. I am really not concernd about the gun's resume. For that reason, I got my 5lb. striker springs yesterday, thanks to JOKO's input, going to install them ASAP, and get to the range. Go from there and continue to look for improvements to the gun and my skills.

I've read numerous posts on the trigger upgrade many of which state you can barely notice the difference. While it is totally subjective, I find the extra 1/8" travel on the standard NYPD trigger, is very noticeable and I shoot the elite trigger in my k40 much better than my fiance's k9. As a matter of fact, I was finishing reassembling my k40 today after doing a meltdown and putting night sights on my gun and I handed her both guns, had her dry fire each and asked her if she could tell a difference. She made no hesitation in stating that her trigger felt a lot longer.

Everyone is quick to say how much the upgrade will cost and isn't worth it. All you need to do is swap out the trigger, trigger spring, and trigger spacer. The 3 parts cost about $26.00 from kahr. Now some will chime in and say the trigger pin is pressed in and you can't get it out. I have changed several and have yet to find one I can't get out with a brass hammer and steel punch. Likewise, I've not had any problem swapping out kahr sights with hammer and punch. If you have any mechanical aptitude, the trigger upgrade is cheap and well worth it. 1/8" doesn't sound like much but it's significant

I'll reiterate my agreement with capt46wfd. Having both triggers, side by side, I much prefer the elite trigger. Mine was factory installed so I can't speak to the difficulty of installation, but at only $26, IMHO, it would be worth the effort.
