Hello. Fairly new to your forum but have a question I hope someone can help me with. Received an e-mail from local gun range today offering a K 40 with extra wood grips for sale on a consignment basis for $480.00. Wondering if this is a fair price or if someone is looking to make a fast buck. Would not mind adding one to the stable but do not want to overspend on something that is not a "must have". I am willing to make the drive to take a look but would like some other thoughts before I take the time. Thanks.

That sounds like a good price if it's in decent shape. I prefer the original rubber grips over wood. Age and condition can really vary. I don't know if all K40's were stainless or not.

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Just Curious - Used K 40
It definitely sounds like a good price. I was looking for one for a while and could not find one under $600. You definitely want to look it over. I think it would be worth the drive out there to look at it.Comment

other that very cosmetic stuff on the elite. He will certainly not have the NYPD TRIGGER in it. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Ive never gotten a clear picture of what triggers came in what years and how to without doubt tell aprt the std. Nypd.
Is the nypd just a sprng pkg on a base trig?

My club is offering one for $550 right now, and when I bought mine a little over a year ago I paid $495. I personally am not much of a cosmetics kinda guy and am not bothered by little blemishes. I am now fully in the Kahr K40 Bigot camp, and strongly recommend you take the time to look at it IF you specifically want a small gun. In a good holster, this thing has two characteristics that make me LOVE it each time I strap it on: it sits tight and close and is easily concealed, and it's massive--an incredible combination in my book.

Well, made the trip across town and it came home with me. They would not let me try it before I made the purchase but did allow full field strip though. Looking it over (and I am not an expert) it appears to be damn near new. There are no marks inside or out and absolutely no traces of carry wear. Even the barrel hood is scuff free. Checking the S/N it appears to have been made in 1998. All I can figure is the guy/gal bought it, ran a box or two through it, did not care for it and let it sit in the safe for 15 years. I would post a couple of pictures but do not know to do it. I appreciate all of your input and advice. Thanks.Comment

Congratulations!! You're probably spot-on regarding its history, and in fact a couple of boxes could very well be an overstatement. MY OPINION is that, unless you've already spent considerable time with comparable handguns, a box or two would never come close to what it takes for proficiency with these little fellers. I'm at about 700 rds now with my K40 and feel I'm just now getting to the point where the gun comes up on target and discharges as one smooth single operation. This isn't a 3.5 lb single action game gun.

Hell yeah! If you ever begin to feel like you paid to much take this into consideration: not long ago I purchased a hard to find, pristine K40 covert made in July of 1998 for $600. I haven't regretted it. Kahrs are wonderful pistols. Was $600 higher than market value? Maybe, but when it comes to purchasing firearms I tend to look at the intrinsic values that you don't necessarily see or feel right away such as the use that I get out of it. I shoot my kahr well. It'schambered in a caliber that I'm comfortable with and it goes with me everywhere. That makes it worth the money to me.Originally posted by kcs1 View PostComment
