Just got my used K40 home from the dealer. ($399) I bought new springs for it, and new grips. The magazine springs are the hardest to compress and get into the body. Are they normally that hard to install? Pics soon. Thanks, Rob.

You can count the coils in both springs to ensure that you have the correct part.
Yes, new springs are usually a baitch to install. But, that gets easier after a couple hundred rounds fired. Funny how that 200 round number keeps coming up.
Personally, I would shoot the pistol just as you received it and replace the springs when failures to return to battery indicate a change is needed.
Admittedly, if this is intended to be a carry gun, you should err on the side of caution.
Best of luck and please let us know how your new to you Kahr behaves. It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

Same # of coils on the springs. What a *itch! My finger tips are sore. Anyway, new grips, new recoil spring and guide rod, new mag springs, and thorough clean and lube, and here it is. This is my 2nd Kahr, after my flawless CM9. It has Trijicon night sights that I'll send out my slide to them to get re-lamped.Attached FilesCM9

Wouldn't run right with the new magazine springs. (not in backwards), so I swapped them out for the ones that came with the gun. Then it ran flawlessly for 100 rounds then I went home. I did notice all 4 grip screws shot loose and I had to tighten them again. Maybe the mild kind of Locktite?CM9

My K40 has the strongest recoil springs of all my Kahrs ( I own 7). Second to that is the MK, but the K 40 is unbelievable tight. The guy I bought it from told me that he has a higher # lb recoil spring in it ... so I never thought more of it. It works great but it is a BEAR to rack a full magazine ... especially if my hands are sweaty. I was thinking of adding some skateboard tape into the slide serrations to get better traction.
Sure does help tame the 40 though

Great price!PM40... My EDC. Just Sayin'

Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

$399? That's a steal! Great find.
I too have installed the stiffer spring on my K40 and it does add a bit to racking, but considering my MK9 and PM9, it's a snap to rack for me.
I'd like to get some wood grips for mine, but I do love the "older" rubberized grips I have. Very comfortable.MK9 Elite 98 / K40 SS / PM9 / KIMBER ULTRA CDP II

My K40 is also High Polished ... that doesn't help the grip.

Ah, gotcha. Yes, that makes perfect sense in hindsight. The stronger spring and a very smooth slide would make that difficult. With even slightly sweaty hands it would be EXTREMELY difficult, if not near impossible.Originally posted by FLBri View PostMy K40 is also High Polished ... that doesn't help the grip.MK9 Elite 98 / K40 SS / PM9 / KIMBER ULTRA CDP II

took it out again today to run defensive ammo tests. (another flawless session) ran 6 +1 180 grn Speer gold dot hollow point, 180 grn Federal Hydra shok, and 165 grn Hornady critical defense. All performed without issue. The Hornady was more acurate however. Then ran 100 rounds of fmj target ammo. I Love This Gun! I put the original rubber grips back on, and it fits my hand better. Although I love the look of the wood grips, I'll probably stick with the rubber. I might put the wood grips up for sale on this site after I decide.CM9

I recently added a crimson trace laser grip to mine. It has the 'hand filling' heft of the wood but not the comfort of the rubber. It's a very comfortable grip to shoot because of the width and I like the laser for it's intended use.
I just wish it looked as food as the wood
