  • K9 at the range -- the beginning of a love affair

This past weekend, I traded my Ruger LC380 to a guy and I got ahold of a 1998 K9 -- today was my first trip to the range with it, and there's no doubt... I'm in love. Maybe it's the extra weight of the all-metal frame, but shooting the K9 felt awfully like shooting the LC380 -- I didn't really feel that much of an appreciable increase in recoil. I put around 150 rounds downrange just to get acquainted with the gun, and it was extremely comfortable in the hand (I do have small hands, after all :P) and easy to control. I'm no master marksman, but I was able to put accurate shots on the torso of a man-shaped target from 10-20 feet and felt good doing it.

Shot a mix of the range ammo -- 115gr brass Blazers -- and my own carry ammo -- 115gr Critical Defense, and no hiccups, misfires, or problems of any kind. This will absolutely be my new main carry weapon, without a doubt. And to think, I didn't even have to spend cash on it

Sometimes the best things in life are free or at least and even trade.

Glad that K9 is working well for you, seems you've found a good mate.

I echo your experience. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of recoil in comparison with all the .380 guns I've shot. I personally like the added weight. I think you can get too small and too light in an arc of diminishing returns with a carry gun.

I recently bought a K9 made in 1995 not long after the company started shipping and it is a fantastic gun. There is a saying on other forums.... Without pictures.....it didn't happen! Please post some pics of your new carry gun!

I was also pleasantly surprised -- it may also be because it's been awhile since I've shot 9mm (I carried/shot .380 for about a year because I was a relatively new shooter and wanted to work my way up the caliber tree), but it was far smoother and more controllable than I expected. Now I just need to practice so I don't keep pulling right.

I can definitely tell this gun is a keeper -- if a 1998 model still shoots this good, that all-metal construction is probably going last me a pretty long time, so I see this becoming my main carry weapon for a pretty long haul. Plus I'm 28 and too poor to buy multiple guns anyway

And since you asked, here are a few pictures:

In the case when I got it in the trade.

I don't know if you feel guilty or not, but you came out WAY ahead if that was an even trade.

Considering I usually see used K9s in the 500 range, and the LC380 barely ran me $350? Why yes, I did come out quite ahead haha... The guy needed a gun his wife could shoot and he already had a carry 9mm he liked, so I guess he figured it was even in terms of both of us getting something we needed. But yes, in terms of overall price and gun quality I made out good

Great gun...I just picked up a used 1996 model for a really good deal as well...I love it. Out of all my Kahr's I shoot it the best even with the heavier trigger pull, congrats!
