  • trigger problem

okay, so i fiannly take my k9 shooting, and im having an issue where my trigger suddenly doesnt work. It rotates and all, but pulls nothing

The trigger bar is loose and falling out of the detent for it.

When the grips are off you can see the trigger bar does not sit flush inside the frame and protrudes some till the grips push it back in.

I'm want to carry this gun so i really need this sorted out.

The grip actually holds the trigger bar assembly in place so that in itself probably isn't the issue.

Is it sporadic and works sometimes or doesn't work at all?

      sporadic

ive been playing with trying to lightly increase tension on the trigger bar spring, the little cup bend on the end that holds the trigger bar was very open.

Im planning on calling kahr monday and seeing about a replacement spring.

My theory right now, is that its not holding the trigger bar hard enough, causing it to slip out of the trigger area during use.

its holding now, and im so far unable to replicate the failure, for a moment i had the spring too tight as it was just popping the trigger bar out of the trigger area. So i think i got it set right now, though i would like a new spring to compare it to. Also some more rounds down range will help see if its fixed

for what its worth though, the gun shoots stupid smooth

okay so i am getting the problem still, it is when i replicate as if im firing live ammo, i pull the trigger, holding the trigger back i cycle the slide, then no more trigger

if i let go of the trigger after that and re rack the slide, the trigger returns to operational

When you replicate the problem while simulating firing and you dont get a good trigger reset, do this.
          Rack the slide
Pull the trigger and hold it back
          Rack the slide again
Slide hour finger off the trigger and let it flick foward forcefully
See if you get a good reset on the trigger by pulling it again.

If it works after that then you may have a trigger bar issue where it's not resetting on the c0cking cam. The trigger bar may need tweaking ever so slightly.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

            alright im replicating the problem

letting the the trigger flick forcefully forward does nothing

it seems after some digging under "kahr trigger reset problems" this gun likely has to go back to kahr

from taking the grips off when this occurs, i know the trigger bar portion thats down towards the trigger is out and up of where it should be

chambering a round and then clearing the round works.

For a test if you "shim" inside the right grip panel at the back with maybe some electrical tape so that it pushes the back of the trigger bar in a few thousandths of an inch can you get a reset then? It May be the hollowed out inside of the wood grips has a little too much space. Like the colonel so well stated the grip panel has to hold the trigger bar in just the right amount and that would definately cause you this problem. I had do some trigger bar work on my cw45 several years ago and the k series looks just like my cw series. I always wondered if the steel kahrs looked the same inside.

Hang in there. You'll get it working.

                  Its not the spring.

Since the gun is relatively filthy, you might want to just make sure you don't have dried, globbed, lube someplace. I'm looking at the grime on the slide and wonder... ok... this gun has been fired a bunch, so it might not be an issue beyond cleaning.

You said the gun was new-to-you, and unless there was a problem with the prev. owner... ya know... it ought to work without bending and twisting and such. Could be something is preventing the trigger from moving all the way forward?

And finally... did you disassemble the pistol? I see Q-tips. Is it reassembled correctly? Is there one of those little Q-tip fuzzy things caught someplace?

Just sayin.... it used to work.... why not now?

I don't think he knows if it worked or not or if the previous owner dumped it due to issues.

Everything you mention is a viable possibility.

                      Well either way

this is an occasional problem it seems

theres a new thread up called odd cm9 warranty where the guy sent in his cm9 for the same issue

all the threads I have seen show the guns going back to kahr and then coming back working as expected so I'm calling them tomorrow

its a shame I have to do all this because the guy is wonderful other wise

i haven't shot in months and my first round was dead center
