  • Installed new wood grips and.....

A new stainless steel guide rod in my K9... Ordered from kahr arms websight, it only took a week for them to get in.

Replacing the grips and guide rod only took a couple minutes.... Overall fit is very good although I may work on them alittle bit as there is a slight gap between the two grips on the bottom rear of the grip... I also finally took advantage of getting rid of a tiny burr on the trigger bar that was rubbing on the spring with my wife's fine nail file (don't tell her I did that) I would feel a tiny "creak" or "bump" while pulling the trigger... And now the trigger is smooth as butter....
Wood quality is excelllent but here is a sneak preview

what do you mean you can't see the pic? Maybe you can see this then...

Not too sure of how to go about getting the grips to fit tighter on the rear as seen IN THE PHOTO. Perhaps some tips would be nice..

It can be frustrating as heck to make that fit. I'd start by taking a tiny bit off with a file or sandpaper along the inside edge of that flat part that shows the gap if you follow. It's flat but sometimes you need to remove wood so it can close up.

If you look from the bottom like your looking up the mag tunnel you can see each of the 3 planes that have to be right. If one of those is tight then some material there has to be removed.

Like I said it's frustrating. And you can't take too much on one of those other levels or you'll have an unsightly gap at the mag well.

Keep at it till you get it right, don't settle for that gap. If you throw in the towel, let me know we'll work it out.

I couldn't see the photo's until today either so whatever everyone else was doing I must have been doing it too.
Do you think that makes me normal? Please.

Nice socks. And beautiful pistol of course. I had a tiny little gap at the top on my MK9. I tightened those top screws completely before snugging the bottom and that took care of it. You might want to try the reverse...understanding that you are torquing the wood a little bit. Otherwise, a little file/sandpaper work might be needed? Or you could return them for a better set.

Bawanna has that exactly right. I between the side to side fit and the fit at the frame at the top of the pistol, well, those grips can be a bear. It sounded like the expert offered to help though, particularly if he seems normal to you...

Me and the word expert don't go to well together. I'm sure you've pumped out way more Kahr grips than I have in many years.
You nailed it on the line about them being a bear. So many area's that have to fit, mess one up it mess's up the next, kind of a snowball effect.

                      They are tough to make.

I'm all for your grips, tough durable and look good too.

Soon as my piggy bank comes back to life a bit I'm gonna get a couple of your 45 followers and maybe some K grips so I can be one of the normal ones. I'm all about normal ya know?
Hope operators are standing by, ya know?

Thanks guys.. I have no idea how to make the photos larger, it's kinda depressing when you upload a pic from your PC that filled your entire monitor screen with high resolution clarity only to see your prized photo come out in the forum's measuring 3x3"..... I've worked with wood before but never on pistol grips, my wood working experience came from yrs of scratch building RC scale model hydroplane boats.. "measure twice cut once"

I tried tightening the bottom screws first as suggested, and initially it tightened that gap on the bottom, but when I snugged up the top screws it opened up again... with the pistol being held upright muzzle down range, the left grip appears to lay flat, the right grip has a slight top/bottom wobble, or twist that with some light sanding should be able to work it out.....

here's a tip I learned from model building.... Go over to Home depot or Lowes...head over to the kitchen section & grab a handful of those little formica samples they have hanging there.. 3m spray glue & glue the sandpaper to one of the samples... Just use an exacto knife & cut around the edges.... makes for a really neat & pefectly flat minature sanding plane.

That's a great idea. I was thinking this morning that it is likely only one side that has the issue. Sounds like you are on your way to getting the fit right.

Excellent idea. The trick is to find the right spot to sand. I agree, I think your on the right track.

The silly part is it isn't always in an obvious location. Keep at it.

I have been wanting wood grips for my MK9. No desire for my K9 becuase I like the feel of the softer grips compared to the MK. However, it is threads like this showing issues with fitting them that strays me away. Hopefully you get them to fit nicely.
