  • Finally got a Kahr K9, need reccomendations for an OWB leather thumb snap holster

Been trying to get a Kahr k9 for a few years but here in the crappy state of California they are not on our roster so we can't buy them unless they are from a private party and I managed to trade my RIA 2011 CS for my buddies kahr k9.

It has a little rust so I'm planning on getting it blasted and cerakoted either armorers black or burnt bronze. Don't really know yet. May just clean it up.

I actually have a need for this gun, I am an executive protection agent by trade and I HATE craptastic plastic guns. I have had 2 separate glock kabooms (one with an aftermarket fully supported barrel) and none of the guns on the all steel firearms on the CA roster are small enough to fit my needs except the kahr k9.

    Now I finally "have" one.

Only 10 more torturously agonizing days until I pick it up...

In the meantime, I need some reccomendations for holsters. I want a leather OWB belt holster with a thumb snap. I saw the tauga offerings for the p9 and was wondering if it would fit the k9. That would probably be my first choice based on price of it would fit.

But I would like to hear your reccomendations.

    Ready.
    Set.
    Go!

I don't really have a good suggestion for you.
I am a believer firm believer that thumb snaps are a band aid for holsters that don't fit well.
I like Mernickle holsters but they don't have thumb snaps.

I wish you good luck on your search.

      Lots of options actually.

      Inexpensive option for now.

If his use for the pistol is job related, I'd not even consider a price tag, I'd get the best.

No thumb break on the remora. Not that I'd want one of course.

I'm really liking the Alessi holster I showed here http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.p...6-New-to-Me-K9 post #10, no thumb brake though, don't believe in them.
I believe it will last longer than me.
Alessi holsters are not cheap though, http://www.alessigunholsters.com/ale...ahr-arms-guns/

My MK9 had some rust on it when I received it. A local smith disassembled it and bead blasted the frame for $25. It looks like new. FWIW.

I need the thumbstrap. I often work around young kids at animal rights protests with libtard parents who don't teach their kids gun safety and have had, on more than one occasion, kids under the age of ten try to touch or grab the butt of my gun. I'm always concious about it but it is just one extra safety precaution. I have actually watched the kids to see what they would do just so I could scream at their parents and make a scene about teching their kids gun safety of they are going to be taking their kids to protests crowded with bodyguards and armed security guards. I've had 2 parents actually try to make the excuse "oh they just wanted to look at it" and "you were paying attention so why does it matter?"

You can't fix stupid, but you can prepare for it, and if a small piece of leather can give me one extra layer of safety for myself and possibly even a child, it's worth it.

I have to carry exposed until I move out of Los Angeles County later in the year. That's when I'm going to ditch the thumbstrap and jump on a crossbreed appendix rig.

Does anybody here have a galco fletch or galco cop 3 slot for the kahr k9? I've been using those for my 1911's for years and love them but don't know how they are with the smaller guns...

Dang that's nice looking... I may have to get the desantis offering instead... Just in black. I really like how much they contoured the leather. Ice never seen the slide serrations of a gun on the outside of a holster before. And I own like 20 holsters lol

Mitch Rosen makes some good stuff. This is from the Kahr website... http://www.kahr.com/K9-Holsters/Kahr...-KACC2K9BK.asp

That looks like it would be a winner. I've used some Mitch Rosen stuff and its all good.

                        K9 California certification

I'm a newbie, so I'm trying to familiarize myself with the labyrinthine California rules, with limited success. I want a Kahr K9, too, and assumed that I have through January, 2017 to purchase one, per the CA DOJ website: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ which lists K9093A & NA / K9098A & NA as certified for sale.
Are these particular models hard to find?
What's the problem with finding a California-legal version?

Does the Mitch Rosen holster cover the entire slide? I really don't want to hang my gun up anymore than I need to. That price is also really appealing...

I just looked at a tauga holster for my buddies pm9 and it looks and feels really nice. Fairly comparable to my galco cop 3 slot holster except without the extra belt hole, which I do not need anyways.

I think the choices are going to be between:

                          Galco Fletch
Desantis belt slide holster with thumb break
                          The aforementioned Mitch Rosen
The tauga OWB with thumb snap designed for the kahr p9/k9
And the galco cop 3 slot (becaus3 I can get it for 20 bucks cheaper than a galco fletch)

I'm so stuck its actually comical. I'm usually a galco fan but right now I'm finding myself in a pickle.

Apparently I mispoke... My bad. While I was working at the gun store I was under the impression that they had fallen off roster. I guess they renewed it and I just didn't pay enough attention. Dirp.

I feel dumb now. But I'm still very happy I have a K9

Grats my friend. My k9 is my favorite nine of all times . The holster thing is a little hard. I use a bianchi minimalist 105 , it has a rubber strap for retenson. A k9 can be shot hundreds of rounds with out any stress on the hands .
