  • Newb quesetion about qualtiy

I've searched and could not find an answer so I figured I would make a new post. I apologize if this located elsewhere and I just can't find it.

Has there been any difference in quality/function in K9's since the beginning of production to now? Are there any preferred years of guns over others?

I'm looking to buy a K9 and am trying to decide between new or used.

    Thanks

Hard question to give an absolute answer too. Personally I don't think there are any preferred years.

The K's are really the flagship for Kahr. Best of the bunch in my small mind.

I don't know whether you would consider it "difference in quality", but over the years, the chamber dimensions have increased slightly, and they started using some kind of Teflon electroless nickel compound for some of the internal parts.

The other change is the dovetail for the sights, there is an "old" and a "new" dovetail.

The earliest K9's were carbon steel not stainless. Parts of the early trigger system are slightly different and no "exact" replacement parts can be purchased today. The new design parts will work, but you'd have to lightly smith the gun to use them. My K9 is an ex-NYPD trade in with the Loooong pull "lawyer" trigger. Some hate it, but I'm fine with it and shoot my NYPD K9 better than any other 9mm I own just as it is.
All K9's are great carry guns totally bone stock. No arguing though, some of the older "problem" K9's have a super price point in todays marketplace.
I keep one eye out at all times for a well priced mid 90's carbon steel K9 as a project gun. If/when I finish that project, I will carry it without a second thought about any of the "problems" other perceive in it.
If you have the bucks, buy a new K9 elite and enjoy the shooting.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
          "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
          "more stuff than you are"
