Kahr K9 slide lock pin and spring

I just took a bunch of pictures of the K9's slide lock pin, spring, and the frame. The spring is mounted in the right inside of the frame. The slide lock pin has a groove and angled cut on the pin to facilitate insertion under the spring and engage the groove. This setup is quite different from the one used in the polymer pistols. The pressure from the spring against the groove keeps the pin in place and applies torque to return the pin to the keep the slide lock down and disengaged until the magazine follower pushes it up on empty magazine to hold the slide back.

I use a Sharpie pen in mouth (as a third hand) to hold the slide open and align the cutout to remove the slide lock by tapping the pin in with the butt of a screw driver. Then I can pull the slide lock out. I'll post some pix of the "aids" after this post.

Kahr sells an orange plastic block especially made for this procedure and I do have one, but the Sharpie pen is handier. I use my hands to hold the slide/frame in the proper position to align the cutout in the slide with the slide lock pen for removal, then I hold the Sharpie pen in my mouth and try different positions until I get the slide/frame to stay aligned.

Only the K series has that kind of slide stopspring. The T. series and MK works just like the p0lymer series with the little springhy.. on the left sife of the frame.

That's good to know. I haven't seen the insides of an MK. So maybe someone will undertake a pictorial addition or separate thread comparable to this.

Onl way I know this wkyn is the owner manual. I hve enver had in my hands a T or a Mk series, let alone with the slide off etc.

I often wondered why kahr never went that extr step and made all thier models like the K series slide stop spring. That simplyt is a fool proof spring. It either works right, or it is broke, n adjustments to it and nuttin an owner can realy screw up IMO. The little springhy IMO works great for those who READ THE MANUAL first before taking the gun apart etc,..

Kahr sells this nifty orange plastic block for the E/K series for $5, but if you order it by itself, you have to add postage... ~ $10 total. Add it to another order as I did.













For putting the slide lock back in, I have to use my hands to better align the cutout for easy insertion of the pin.

Thanks, I gotta try the Sharpie. It never occurred to me to jamb something in there.

Seems like they could slip the orange plastic piece in an envelope with one regular stamp instead of five bucks postage, but whatever.

Years ago I whittled a piece of wood to do the same chore but I got tired of hunting it doen so I decided to figure out how to do the task without a hold-open tool. I've learned to hold the slide in the correct spot and use the base of a magazine to push the slide pin out. This works on the K series as well as the rest of the line that won't budge using mere thumb pressure.

All my poly Kahrs are easy to remove the pin with the exception of my P9, which takes a firmer push for some reason. I use the mag base on it too.

I just looked around the desk area and found something about the correct size. Using my mouth to hold the pen made aligning the slide and frame easy with both hands free.

My osprey is still out there eating after about two hours!
