Feedramp and follower contact test...

Just picked up my CM9 and am just in the cleaning and prep stage. Only have the one mag it comes with till the others I have on order arrive. So before I take it out to shoot I decided to see if I could identify if this would be an issue with the feedramp hitting the magazine guide. This one came in the cardboard box if that makes a difference.

So what I did was put a small sticker on the front of the magazine, figuring if there is any contact, it will mar or put a shinny spot on the mag. So I put the magazine in slowly and racked the slide holding the slide release lever down about a dozen times real fast. This is the result.

Just wanting to know if this would be normal or would cause the cracked follower issue with the feedramp hitting it?

I'm not sure that "hand racking" the slide would show up anything useful.

Firing the handgun with it's accompanying functional stresses is the only way to show whether or not there is any contact between the feed ramp and the magazine follower after the last round has been fired.

Agree actual functional test would tell for sure. Reason for the question is that even just hand racking shows a mar on the sticker, which isn't near the stress or force of a full fire test.

Again, not saying there is an issue, just wondering if this could be a warning sign. Maybe if someone could do the same test with one that they know does not contact. The sticker I used was just an MTM reloading label, green in color.

Most pics I've seen here, show a contact at the step, right were your sticker ends.
The follower is only in that position on the last shot, plus it will be pushing up on the slide lock, so to test I'd load and shoot a single round, inspect the follower, and repeat.

Thanks Tilos, I'll give that a shot on Monday when I go to the range. Thanks for helping me understand this, and I'm sure it won't be a problem. I've been cycling it all day and dry firing trying to get used to the trigger. SOOOO much easier to carry than my G26.

A test I try with my mk9 is to lock the slide back / point the muzzle up / insert an empty mag as you push down on the barrel crown with just a little pressure from your index finger. As you push the mag up all the way see if the barrel comes up into your finger or if you feel any movement. Just a test to see if there is clearence.

During firing though the slide goes back just a bit farther so the best way is to fire it.

If the gun is prone to breaking followers, no about of testing and futzing is going to prevent it. Shoot it.

SAS is saying makes sense to. proof is in the pudding. I will say ur idea of checking it was very good. If it is hitting it by hand racking does not do what the actuallcycling of the slide is doling after the bang thing, but again, until u shoot the fokker, it is hard to tell. Certainlly this would not be groulns to call and discuss with kahr either. It is gonna have to break a couple of followers befor ethey will act upon any thing. The bang thing makes many things happen on a gun that we cannot duplicate by hand racking.

So, IMO shoot it 20 rounds, check the follower, shoot it anutter 20 rounds check the follower, do this until you get 200 rounds through the gu and if no broken followers, then assume it is good to go. If it breaks one follower, unless u have a spare mag or follower, then I would email kahr, attn Jay and state ur case. The gun is new and if they say send it back, then u ask for a prepaid pickup on ur new gun. they wlldo that.

UPDATE: Back from range trip and after 100rds all looks good. Great little gun!
