Took the slide off my wife's P9 to try and get the striker out and clean the channel (light hits). Cannot for the life of me depress the small pin behind the plate - I have a very small screwdriver that gets to the face of the pin, but with reasonable force, it just doesn't move.

That's issue #1.


In a vain effort to apply more force to it, I slid the barrel and spring-less slide onto the frame (don't ask it seemed like a good idea at the time). I now have a slide set slightly to the back; it can't slide forward regardless of what I do with the trigger (which doesn't seem to reset).

When you are all done mocking me (she surely has been), I'd welcome any suggestions on how to unfrak things.

So the barrel is in the slide in the normal locked up position? You can't pull the slide back or push it forward even when you manipulate the trigger?
Start with wiggling the barrel and the trigger and trying to move forward.
If the slides back far enough you might be able to get the rear plate off so you can depress the disconnect? I'm spacing out on terminology.

Otherwise you might have to take a thin wire or maybe a feeler gauge and get that depressed. Probably what it's hanging up on.

The little hold you depress to remove the plate is deceiving, it appears the size you see but if you look close its half moon shaped and half the size. If you press and nothing moves your probably not in the small part of the hole and not depressing the extractor chain.

Stay positive, more help will be along.

No - slide w/o barrel/spring...

I was pushing on the half-circle not covered by the back plate...didn't budge a bit.

Great video aid.

Sometimes the opening to the extractor spring assembly pin is very small, as seen in this photo, and you need a very small diameter object to fit. I use a jewler's screwdriver. It takes some effort. The back plate itself may take some effort, prying or such, to slide it off.
This photo shows the reverse side of the plate and how small the actual opening is. The other screwdriver is my "pry bar".


Use a "Ripley Retractor" to take the pressure off the striker spring off the back plate.

Also the Ripley Retracter works EXCELLENT! I made one and keep it in my gun cleaning kit. The only thing I did different was bend a U in the wire at the breech face so I have a "handle" sticking up to use when installing and removing it.

You do have to use the Ripley retracter first to relieve the pressure and then a very small screwdriver. The back will then slide right off.

It's a Ripley Retractor, we try to stay with proper terminology round these parts. Course some call it a coat hanger too so guess just about anything will work.
