Kahr Hardwood Grips

I just got a MK40, and was thinking about adding a set of hardwood grips to it to dress it up a bit. I have been reading some of the threads about the grips that are ordered from Kahr, and I'm getting a bit scared off from placing the order. When I order an item from a company like Kahr, I would expect that the item ordered from Kahr would properly fit the Kahr pistol. Do I have valid concerns or not?

There seems to be absolutely no 3rd party vendors for these grips.

Hogue makes the grips for Kahr, perceived QC problem, if there is one, is with Hogue, not Kahr.I read the posts but I haven't seen anything that would stop from buying (more) wood grips from Kahr if I wanted them.

I have to disagree with this. The variance in fit consistency lies with the variance in frame specs with the pistol. I have several Kahr firearms and have tried swapping wood grips between different handguns (of the same model) and proven this to myself. In one case I had a frame replaced under warranty, by Kahr, because the wood grip that came with was not fit well ... none of the other grips I owned fit well ..... and Kahr had nothing in their stock that fit well. Hogue makes grips for lots of guns without the tolerance problems.

I am a Kahr fan, believe me, but consistency and quality control out of the box are weak points. The good side is the design and the fact that they have ALWAYS made every issue 100% right with my handguns. There is a reason why you don't find lots of after market options for Kahr firearms, with respect to grips.

All I can say, Rufus, is get the grips you want. Most likely, they'll be fine ... and if not, Kahr will make it fine. But is there a possibility of a bit of a process to it? .... yes. It won't (or shouldn't) make you love the end result any less.

Rufus, Buy the Kahr grips, you won't ever regret it. They can be made to fit in 10 min with a box blade or sharp pocket knife. You only need to shave off a small amount of wood to fit them.
And, Yes Kahr could address the problem with the supplier so this doesn't need to be done, but until they do, it can be fixed by yourself. It is only on the inside of the panels that need to be trimmed. It doesn't involve any of the finished surfaces, the outside of the grips are a perfect fit and very beautiful to look at. The grips are really nice and I don't think an outside maker could duplicate the finished product. Do It!

OK. I placed the order for the hardwood grips from Kahr. I know that they will add the final touches on an already great-looking piece.

I just got my Hogue/Kahr grips for the K40 today and fit perfectly--a very slight difference in contour at the very top rear, but that's just the edge of the grip following the contour of the gun in profile...not an issue of the grips fitting to the gun and mating up with one another. I'm extremely pleased, hope you are too. They seem to feel better than the stock grips...maybe a little fatter as folks have sometimes said...that was actually my main reason for buying them was to get a bit fatter grip. I'm trying to find a dye that will turn them as black as possible so they don't look so much like wood.

Looks great--what a handsome little pistol there! How do like how they feel? I seriously enjoy what seems to be a fatter feel, but I haven't measured to see if it's fact or imagination.

I'm waiting for my slide and barrel to get back from Mag-na-port before I try any glamour shots.

I also like the metal magazine base plate on yours--what's the deal with that? Mine are all plastic. Is that specific to a model or is it an option?

The mag is the one that I got with the gun. I think the new grips are a bit fatter, which I like. I decided to go with the smooth grips because the stock Kahr grips seems to feel a bit rough in my hand when I shoot.
