  • MK9 second round

Had a problem with a cracked frame on my first MK9 and Kahr did make it all right. Now I just got a chance to shoot her with the new frame after about 150 rounds at the range (3 stove pipes) I noticed the grips were loose, just like the first frame ( no cracks after I inspected) is this a normal occurrence?
    Thank you,
    Marc

YES, this is normal on any Manufactures gun that has removeable grips that are held on by screws. It doesn't matter what brand gun you are shooting. The FIX is to put LOCKTITE on the screws and they will no longer viabrate out from shooting.

My only disappointment with my MK9 is the loosening of the grip screws. I have even lost them. However, Kahr was kind enough to send me free replacement screws. I have never had this issue on any of my other metal framed pistols. However, since I have been using purple thread locker on the MK grip screws, the problem is resolved.

My fear was, and still is, stripping the threads on the frame. In my opinion, for whatever it is worth, the pistol should have been designed with 1911 type grip screw bushings.

I have a Sig p230 that does the exact same thing. The grip screws get loose and it is only a .380 cal.

on this forum since day 1 and I have never read of any MK frames having stripped threads. Put um in correctly and u will never have an issue..
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

              RE: MK9 second round

Mine too come loose after shooting. Someone else suggested that a small o-ring on the screws helps keep it from loosening. I've not tried it but will probably go that route first before lock-tite.

I also have this problem with my metal frame guns. I use small lock washers and they help some but do not fully correct the problem. I have Crimson Trace laser grips on my guns so I can't go the Lock-tite route. They have to be removed occasionally to replace the batteries. I keep a multi-head screwdriver in my range bag and keep the grip screws tight when shooting.

IF ONE USES THAT PURPLE LOCKTITE THAT ost gun shops sell, that stuff is very easy to get loose. It is made for very small fastenors, It woks great for scope screws to. but really nice for grip screws. although if the little O rings were more avalalbe, I think would be alot less messey to.

Mine on my K9 worked loose real bad and if u let that right side grip get kinda loose, it can effect trigger reliability as the top part of that wood grip if u notice has a metal plate towards the back of that girp and that is made/designed to hold that trigger bar in correct alignment, To loose and the bar can actually move outward enough to cause "dead trigger".

Use the blue loctite and you should be fine. The red is the stronger one.
