  • Gripe about MK Grips

I got a gripe about the MK grips. Today I shot my K9 and Mk9. The soft grips on the K9 felt so much better than the thin hard plastic ones on the MK9. I just don't understand why Kahr can't put the same grips on the MK pistols as on the K pistols.
Anyone have any comments or information in this regard?

Unfortunately you have two options. The factory black plastic or thick factory wood. Nobody is making any. My research found people have wanted more options for years. I found Highfiguregrips.com will make some for $300.....

i just ordered the thicker wood ones and the factory grip screws are too short, so I can't comment on feel yet.

I wonder if you could make moulds of the factory grips and pour your own rubber compound, or scan a factory grip and route out your own from wood? I've seen stuff like that done, but I've never done it myself, so I may be grossly underestimating the effort required.

I really like the wood ones. If you wanted thinner, you could always sand them down a bit. Or you can chop a set of the rubber K9 grips (but the rubber ones are hard to find). The soft K9 grips you buy on the website are not the soft rubber ones of yesteryears...but they aren't as hard as the MK grips. Other than that...there aren't many options. Let us know if you do something.

I've slimmed down several sets of factory wood MK9 grips and make the factory screws work too.
The last set was a checkered set and I filed off all the checkering and made them smooth per request.

Some of the factory wood is down right pretty. I was making a set for the guy but my wood didn't look near as nice as his.

I really don't want to make any more MK9 grips for a while, too much work, too much variation, early model, late model etc, but I'd be happy to slim down a set that you know fits your gun.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I do like the look of the wood grips; but, I would not want them thinned down. That is the problem with the MK grips; they are too thin for my liking, unlike the K9 grips which are just right.

A cnc router could do the job, it's just getting that scan or file that's the trick.

I bought some soft K9 grips and cut them short to fit the MK9 I used to have.

Did the contour fit right, and how did you re-do the bottom holes? I assume you didn't have to do a thing to the top holes.

I cut the bottom straight (perpendicular to the frame), but a bevel would be better. The bottom holes, I used the frame as a jig and just did it. It lined up just fine.
