  • Long Awaited P380 update

Long Story as short as I can get it: Wife bought Pink p380. Went through the merry-go-round of trying to make this gun shoot which it never would. Multiple cleanings, lubings, ammo brands, 4 different shooters. 1st kahr purchase, most likely last, etc. sent back to kahr. Kahr did not replace frame or slide, but almost everything else (springs, barrel, ejector, firing pin, magazines, etc.). Got gun back from kahr, had to lube and clean it as it was filthy. Gun went through 15 clips without a hicup, using magtech ammo. Then, after 15 clips, it was like a switch was turned and the gun would not feed, eject, etc., fired as a single shot only. Assume needed cleaning. Took home, cleaned gun spotless, lubed per instructions.
    New Data:
    - Shot 3 clips of self defense, Bought buffalo bore +p ammo. Gun shot ammo ok, but the slide dropped out on all three clips, which caused it to jamm. Slide obviously only dropped 3/8" out. HELP/Ideas Please. Is it possible the +p ammo recoils and forces your hand to push on the slide release button???

    - After self defense buffalo bora fiasco, Switched to federal red box cheapo but goodo ammo. Gun prematurely locked open every other clip around 4th shot. No part of hand touching slide release lever. Help?Ideas please. Gun was intentionally shot while "staying" away form the slide release lever, yet it still locke dopn around 4 bullet fired.

      check your slide stop spring
check to make sure bullets are not hitting slide stop's internal "nose"

        p380

        Been shooting 28+ years. Proably 15th semi-auto.
Will check slide spring, and see if bullet is touching. Otherwise, here we go again back to kahr, unless the consensus is: the gun never shot right out of the box, and never will. Then I guess it can become a fun novelty range gun, never to be trusted an carried as it was purchased for???

Buffalo Bore ammo, causing the clip to be released??? just never heard of this one and can't think it's the guns fault. The recoil was not painful, just more so than normal. Could it force the gun to rock in hand thus hitting the slide release?

If the poly frame is weak or cracked some where would it flex enough to let the mag fall if the magcatch moves a certain way. Question not an answer.

Just to clarify a point you made in your first post. There is no +P 380 ammo as recognized by SAMMI spec. The Kahr pistols are designed to be shot with SAMMI spec ammo. SAMMI is the spec used by all ammo and gun manufacturers in the US. That being said, Buffalo Bore "hot" loads may or may not work.

Additionally, Magtech ammo is also made outside the country. I have experienced reliability issues using it in my guns and therefore no longer use it.

In terms of the other issues you experienced with Federal ammo, have you contacted Kahr customer service?

As an aside, with an alias of "disapointed" will you ever be a happy Kahr owner?

Slide dropped out of what? Your slide is on rails it shouldn't drop out of anything?

                - Yes magazine not clip, hope you won't lose any sleep over this. The magazine, not clip, dropped 3/8" out of "battery". See the quotes? Don't think you'll have to correct me on this one. It was as if the release was pushed in while firing.
                - Buffalo bore on box (sorry no pics) states, .380 +p
                - Doing everything I can to give be a kahr fan. Already have $800.00 in this pistol, and 2 months. How much more should I expect/give? In all honesty woudl any die hard true kahr fan, say, 'Keep going and going and going, till it's right."?

P.S. The magtech ammo was flawless for 15 clips. then switched to federal reb box and nothing would work form there on. Assumed it was s dirty pistol and quit for the day, also ran out of magtech.

The term clip is almost universally used by folks who know little about firearms. I find it hard to believe you have been shooting for 28 years and still use that term.

Funny, just a slang term I picked up and apparently have never dropped. Don't know much about firearms?? Come on. I'll tell ya what I don't know much about; how to get a picture here from my hard drive. Or should I say image?

Or you can just call it a mag, still one syllable and less letters to type.

So they mag is dropping out, not the slide. What made it a single shot? It wouldn't feed the next round? Jammed? Slide locked open?

Here's one that the die hard sticklers can slam me for. Your gun is new but I would think that there aren't that many pink p380's compared to the black ones(I might be right) so is your frame one of the older problem frames. I don't recall if you listed your serial#. For the members that feel they need to scrutinize his choice of terms to describe the problems with his gun if it was me with his problem I too would be “disapointed”. When his gun is finally fixed maybe then “disapointed” can be “happy with Kahr”

I have not done it on this site, but it looks like you can go to the bottom of the page when you are posting. There is a "manage attachments" tab you can click on to pull a pic off your pc. Good luck!
