Wife keeps dropping mag with CW9...

My wife and I have 2 CW9's with lasers on 'em. I had a CW9 a few years back that ran great. My new one was a pain and after 3(!) trips to Kahr it finally works...I will spare you the usual gory details. Here is my problem: the wife squeezes the heck out of the pistol when shooting (or even handling it) and unknowingly squeezes the mag release and it drops out of position just as it should. She took it out of her purse yesterday and there it was again-mag still in the gun but functionally only a single shot...might as well be a flintlock!
When I try to educate her she goes ballistic because once again she does not want to be "lectured" by the big know-it-all = ME.
I have a lot of money invested in the CW,hundreds of rounds of ammo,range time,laser, so I do not wish to sell it and get her a revolver. I have been wondering if perhaps some sort of larger grip would force her to hold the pistol in such a manner that would prevent accidental mag release. Any help would be greatly appreciated,otherwise she gets a 5 shot .38...

nothing wrong with a wheel gun, IMO. Most women are very comfortable with a wheel gun, for they can load and unload it with ease, no jams to mess with their mind and certainly no dropped mags either. I don't think ur downgrading her in the slightest. The cw is not for her , unless she can make that change. As u know lectures sure no purpose with WOMEN. they are sarter than us, just ask them!! Just sayin

Buy her a J frame smith and puyt the rubber CT grips on it and she will be good to go and with the laser on it, she will also hit something to..

For roughly $10 it is worth trying a grip sleeve. I notice that it is easier for me to keep my thumb away from the release with a Qwik Grip installed. The softer grip surface definitely makes it easier to hold the gun encouraging a more relaxed grip . . . or at least that is my experience. I shot one of my PM40's last week without the grip sleeve for a single 150 round session. At first the smaller grip was a novelty, but by the end of the first box of 50, I was wishing I had the grip sleeve. Needless to say it got reinstalled and life is good again now.



The top pistol is wearing the Qwik Grip size 3a. It is available from Midway USA as a "Lone Wolf" brand size 3. For the longer grip of the CW9, you probably need a size 2, also available from Midway at this link.

Trim her thumb back approximately 1/4" at a time until is no longer hitting the mag release?

I think AJBert has hit on the right solution, Just trim until it stops dropping. Actually a dremel with a drum sander would do nice and make a neat job, might be alittle bloody at first, so I would recommend doing it outside. Keep us posted and as u can see there are members here who are really trying tohelp her to. Just sayin

Are you sure she's hitting the mag release button? Or maybe the mag isn't in tight to begin with? Is she installing the mag with the slide open or closed? My CW9 mag will shimmy out on its own if I don't jam it in hard (in a very un-ladylike fashion!) Also, try putting a Hogue Handall Jr grip on her CW9. It makes it super comfy to shoot and might help her grip better, not harder.

Yea, I was thinking the Hogue grip sleeve might help too. But, some of my mags need a firm smack to lock in... You might want to check that is not the issue.
Although there are some nice revolvers out there that wouldn't be a "downgrade" like jocko was saying. S&W Air Weight, Ruger LCR, just to name a couple.

It's far easier to replace a bad wife than good CW9. If my wife ever listened to me I'd die of a heart attack. She never listens even though she knows that I'm always right. I don't know what's wrong with women today. They think that they are independent beings with thoughts of their own. When will they ever learn of man's superiority. (Said with tongue firmly implanted in cheek for your benefit) There is a sign in our kitchen that says, "If mom ain't happy ain't nobody happy." Buy her a wheel gun. I've never seen a mag drop out of one.

I was just out shooting my Ruger SP101 with wad cutters in it the other day. Wow! I forgot how much fun it was to shoot that wheelgun. The wad cutters are a pleasure to shoot whereas the recoil is negligable, especially in that heavy revolver.

My wife also prefers a wheelgun over a semi. She says that she can easily see if it is loaded, does not have to worry about racking one in the chamber or shutting the safety off, and lastly, if it goes "click" when she pulls the trigger, all she needs to do is pull the trigger again!

Hard to argue with that logic!

You might try getting her some training with a professional.

Women tend to not listen to their husbands as men tend not to listen to their wives.

Or you could just get her a wheelgun... I picked up a wheelgun I have been wanting for some time. Everytime I tried to get the wife to hold one she remarked she had no interest in the thing. First trip to the range and she tells me she really likes that wheelgun and wants one for her self... Lucky for me on one trip or another to a LGS I found one at a price I was willing to pay and she didn't complain about it.

Good advice from a member of the distaff side of the species!

You might share it with your wife for encouragement. Sometimes knowing someone else has resolved the same issues is helpful.

But, remember . . . revolvers are kind of neat too, if she can learn to deal with the usually heavy trigger pull.
