  • Fiocchi Ammo

Okay, I went shooting over the weekend with my P45 and had a bit of an unpleasant experience. Big5 had a sale on Fiocchi Ammo so I bought a big box of 500 rounds to put through the gun. I ran fifty rounds through it without a hitch, then it started jamming. Now let me say this gun has had about 250 rounds through it previously and I have experienced no problems, except ones caused by user error, so I was a bit dismayed when this started happening. The rounds were not making it up the ramp and into the chamber and I had the ranges gunsmith come out and take a look. I shot one round and it did the same and then he fired a few rounds without a problem and I fired a couple more as well. He suggested it was either the ammo (I had no problems with the first 50 rounds, but the ramp was almost completely black with powder) or my shooting style was robbing the slide of it's momentum.

Needless to say this is a bit concerning to me as the gun is my carry weapon and I do carry it every day. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions, experiences with the Fiocchi Ammo, or any other gems that may help fix my problem. I do understand it could be just my stance and grip, but I genuinely don't think it is.

    Thanks in advance.

Probably a little bit of both. Cleaning the ramp off after about 50 of the Fiocchi or changing your shooting style should help. If it shoots OK with other brand rounds, then it is the ammo.

Since the range guy didn't have an issue (although you didn't say how many times he shot it) I'd lean towards stance or grip.

In you shoes, I'd clean and lube it good, 250 rounds is good but it's still probably new and tight. Start off again with the Fiocchi, focusing on good grip etc. I'd have another brand of ammo on hand. If it balks load the other stuff and see what you find.

I don't have a lot of experience with Fiocchi so no clue how it is.

It could be it's on the low end of the power range and when the gun got a little dirty it just didn't have enough boom to make things happen. But working for the range guy again leans back to a weak grip.

I've used the Fiocchi 9MM with no problems. I was expecting it to run dirty, considering the price I paid. So, I was pleasantly surprised by how much cleaner my gun was compared to using the Federal ammo.

I've noticed sometimes that after the first round of magazines... varying from 37 for the Pm45 and on up... I fill up my mags before leaving home... I might get some failures to feed if the feed ramp gets really dirty. That could be a factor with the steep offset ramp on the Kahrs. Polish the heck out of the ramp to keep crud from sticking there and hold onto the pistol tighter. I use two hands and push into the weak hand while pulling back with it. I don't always lock my shooting arm and absolutely try to keep the muzzle down, though.

Fiocchi is is marginal at best. On a good day it is garbage dirty ammo.

I've put about 150 rounds of Fiocci thru my PM45 (just the black one). No problems, but it is dirty... yet seems full powered. Sometimes, if we get a deal on dirty shooting ammo, there is compromise needed... more frequent cleaning.
