  • First Kahr, CW9

    Hello All,
I've been been doing some research for the last few days on a new CC pistol. My choices were b/w a Ruger LCR .38 special and a Kahr CW9. After reading a lot of reviews on this forum I decided to go with the CW9, which I first heard about 3 years ago.
I picked it up today for $400 and took it through the proper cleaning per Jocko's post online for new Kahrs. I used some "Wearever" professional strength non-chlorinated break parts cleaner to spray it down with. For oiling, I used the Lube Diagram. I used a Q-tip soaked with Rem-oil.

I racked the slide about 100 times or so and then cycle 2 mags of ammo through the chamber to check the feeding and ejecting, NO problems.
As far as shooting goes, I cycle through 10 rounds down in the yard w/o any problems and kept all but one flyer within a 6 inch group from ~7 yards.

Having upgraded from a Kel-Tec P-11, my initial thoughts are that I love the Kahr, trigger was great, bar-dt sights are super easy to acquire and I can actually get my pinky on the end w/ the 6 rd mag. Only minor issue was rubbing my right thumb (I'm a righty) on the slide release when shooting (I point my thumbs along the barrel towards the target).

I just wanted some feed back about my cleaning options and if they are correct or if I need to purchase something else?
I'm thinking about putting the Talon rubber grip on it, anyone familiar with them?

    Thanks

Sounds like you are doing it right so far. Enjoy the ride for the first 200 rounds then the fun begins! You purchased a great pistol.

Congrats on a your new gun. You made a great choice on it and also by coming here. Tons of info from good helpful people. Welcome aboard!

I bought a CW9 some months ago and noticed my thumb rubbing the slide release too, so I'm curious to hear what others say.

I have seen some people file it more rounded. You could try that and buy a new one from Kahr if you mess it up.

I have a Kel-Tec P-11 also, and I have never had any problems with it either. However after I purchased my CW-9 I no longer have any use for the P-11. But I figure I wouldn't really get much for a used Kel-Tec if I tried to sell it, so I have decided to keep it and give it to a family member or a friend that needs a pistol. As far as the CW-9 there is no comparison in it and the P-11. Although it is one of Kahrs budget models anyone that knows pistols can see it's a well made firearm. Nothing cheap about it, and it has been 100% reliable no malfunctions at all. I am now thinking about getting one of the new CM-40's. But first I want to get some of you guys input. Hope I didn't Hi-jack your post. Thanks

u realize the reason kel tek dropped the 40 cal in their P11 model was due to the gun and shooter could not take the beating. The kahr 40 cal can take the beating hands down but the sooter takes a beating. Just can't equate the weight factor and the caliber factor and get away from it. IMO u can'thurt any kahr 40 calmodel, thatis a given but if u read the posts on this forum u will find that "most" (nopt all) will tellyou the 40 cal is a handfull to enjoy at the range. Just sayin
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

                Good times.

Im wearing my right now, kind of forgot to take it off...

I got mine in about late February and have shot close to 2,000 rounds through it. Honestly mostly Winchestor "white" box, and not had a problem.

Getting some reloads to put through see how it handles.

Once I found the sweet spot, and staged the trigger, this thing is great.

I ALMOSt got the "CM9" but wanted a little extra for my hand in terms of grip size, and a little more barrel. It works for me.

I also have a CW9 I really enjoy. Also chose it for tha same reasons as Paistemage. Slightly larger barrel and grip. I have shot about 1600 through mine. I can't get enough during range visits so I bought two 8 round mags and would like to buy more 8 rounders.

Can't wait to go to my first IDPA event. It's gonna be fun for sure.

This "staging the trigger", is that a modification or just finding the spot just before "Bang" takes place?

Most experienced Kahr shooters will tell you not to try to stage the trigger because there is no discernible stage, you just have to guess. Impossible to do in a high stress, s.h.t.f. situation. Much better to practice a smooth, continuous trigger pull that does not upset your aim, and let the BANG happen without trying to anticipate it.
