FNG with a P9

Hello everyone My name is Shawn and I'm from Marion, OH. I just traded a LCP and a LC9



for a P9



and a little cash




I also ordered a foxX holster Wednesday and got it in the mail today I don't think they can be beat for $40

Now on to my user name. It's not because I'm special in any way, it's my user name on a GM truck forum GMTNation.com. It comes from the truck I drive that I named Short Bus because it's a TrailBlazer EXT with the 3rd row seat, making it kinda like a short bus.

P.S. I hope this is the correct place for an intro thread, if not, mods please move it to the proper place.

You're in the right place. Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't mind having one of those for Wifey. I bought her a P380 since she had a lot of trouble racking the PM9 and P40, and PM45. She could barely rack my P380. The K9 is too heavy, but the P9 might be just right IF I could lighten the recoil spring a bit. The P380 is still very tight. I took it to the range and then let Kahr have it back to fix a bad extractor and after several more trips to the range it's still very tight, even though I leave it locked back all of the time. She still hasn't shot that pistol. She's been looking for a job.

The P series are very nice in size and weight... about the size of the K9, but half a pound lighter, if I remember correctly. I hope you enjoy yours!

I got no issue with the short bus. People that rode the short bus are people too, some were almost normal. Mostly left handed or at least cross dominant.

Welcome to the forum. I have been carrying a P-9 since 2002 and highly recomend it. From the photo of yours I see that a new generation has evolved. Mine does not have the taper at the end of the slide.

Fixing the heavy recoil spring problem is actually quite easy.

Part 1:

Take a brand new replacement spring and cut off a coil. Test the wife's ability to rack the slide and test fire. Repeat as necessary. As long as the spring is strong enough to run the slide reliably, it's strong enough to function.

Yes, if the spring is too soft the gun will get battered. Practice with soft-shooting target ammo. For example, I load our defensive 9mm's with either Winchester Ranger-T +P+ or Speer Gold Dot short barrel +P. But, for practice they run on either 147 gr standard pressure or my soft-shooting 170 gr IDPA load.

Who cares if the gun gets battered during a defensive shooting? IMHO, defensive guns are disposable - if you use it, the cops will take it and you may or may not ever see it again.

Part 2:

Put grip tape on the slide. It's amazing what a difference it makes. Yeah, it's fugly, but then a PM9 ain't no beauty queen in the first place.
