New P380 HATES Fiocchi Ammo

I recently bought a new P380 with serial RC7XXX. I found some Fiocci ammo from Midway at a great price and bought a bunch hoping to use it to break my pistol in. Oops. The P380 won't chamber a single round from the magazine. It jams every time.

Lucky for me I happened to have purchased a few boxes of Gold dots, Hornady, and some local +P ammo as well. I was able to fire 100 rounds through the P380 with only an occasional failure to feed. The slide would lock back as if the magazine was empty when it wasn't.

Hopefully, once the pistol is properly broken in and some of the rough edges are rounded off the Fiocchi ammo will work in my P380. In the meantime, does anyone have a suggested cartridge to try that doesn't cost about a buck per round for plinking?

PMC ammo worked fine for me and won't break the bank during break in.

Remington and/or Federal whitebox ammo is a bit more costly than PMC but has never given me any trouble.

Which Fiocchi? FMJ or HP? Bullet weight?

I've not found Fiocchi or Magtec ammo to be particularly accurate in any of my pistols, I don't bother with it. I stick with the Big 4... Remington, Winchester, Federal/CCI or Hornady for factory handgun ammo. I've had decent luck with PMC, but besides a box of .41MAG, I haven't used PMC in years.

+1 on the Gold Dots, though, that's what I carry in my Colt .380.

...it stinks that a box of .380 costs almost as much as a box of .45ACP.

I was at the range one day and watched a new P-380 go through a couple of boxes of "Fiocchi" with only one issue of a light primer strike. Second time the round went off...possibly just a hard primer. No other issues were observed.

Fiocchi 95 grain Full Metal Jackets

The ammo my gun is struggling with is a 95 gr. FMJ. I bought a box of PMC and cheap Winchester. I haven't had a chance to take them to the range yet but both feed just fine when putting one in the chamber from the magazine. If the PMC fires OK, I'll use it as my range ammo as it cost only $0.28 per round when bought from www.ableammo.com.

I got S&B at Cabela's today for that price. It's hard to find cheaper.

I would like to recommend CCI alloy cased fmj's. They are as cheap as any and in my case I found that the harder alloy cased rnds. cycled flawlessly thru my otherwise problematic P380...Mark

I tested dozens of different ammo varieties in my P380 and found 3 to be problematic. I stay away from Fiocchi, Tulammo, and S&B. Full details on what worked and what didn't is here.
