  • CW9 & Steel Challenge!!!

Well I went ahead and shot my CW9 at this weekends steel challenge and had a blast. This was one of the harder ones I have shot. Lots of 8" plates. I shot 158 rounds total, So I did have trouble on a few stages here and there. I had one stage that I shot the CW9 better than the .22 with all low 4 seconds, I think my throw away was a 4 second also. I had a couple of stages where I had trouble with a single plate and would make more than a few shots at it and had to really bare down to hit them. It is amazing when you really use the front sight how it works better . LOL. The gun worked perfect. At the end my hands where really sweaty and the gun gave me a blister on my trigger finger I think from the gun moving around in my hand so much. I have tried Skate Board tape, a little too abrasive esp. when carrying. Did the inner tube trick last night and will try that at the IDPA match in 2 weeks.

I was really bummed when I first got this gun because of light strikes, but since getting it back from Kahr it has been perfect. I know I would MAYBE do better with a better gun suited for the game,But it is so fun kicking people arses with this little gun. I had several shots at 20 and 25 yards on a 8" plate and had a 40 yarder, but it was a bigger square plate but still a decent shot. I loved my CM9 but could not shoot it like I thought I should, But love the CW9 and it is a keeper. Jim

Great, Jim, it certainly sounds like more fun than just perforating paper targets while standing still at the indoor range I use.

I may get a CW9 for the night stand when my CM9 isn't by my side.

im lucky enough to have access to an outdoor range where i can use my shepard hooks and 10" plates for target practice....my wife and daughter like the immediate confirmation of their hits on target as well.....

There is nothing like hearing steel twang after a hit. I took my Cousin with me and she had never shot steel and loved it. I just ordered some Wolff strikers springs for my CW9 and can't wait until they get here. Fun Times. Jim

That is some nice shooting, considering you are drawing from a holster with the CW and starting at about low ready with the .22. I shoot steel challenge regularly with a Ruger 22/45 and enjoy it alot.

To be fair about my times with the CW9 I shot GSSF. So I was low ready when I started . But the stages seemed harder than the norm for some reason even with the .22 . None seemed fast like a Smoke & Hope type stage. It will only get better the next time. Jim

I need to get some more mags before I shoot my local steel challenge match.

Got the results from the Steel Match. I was right on how I did. The 5 scores was (not exact) 52.00,20.00,21.00,20.00 and a 43.00.
So the first and the last was horrible but the middle three scores was decent. I know it will only get better. I just installed the 5# Wolff striker spring plus a little more range time. Jim

I'd like to do some steel shooting myself, but most places are too far and I just don't have that kind of time to spend on the road.
