  • CW9 Polymer deformed at front guides

    Hey group:

I got back from the range yesterday and for the first time had some feeding issues with Gold Dots. To date I have had no issue with any HP other than the HST 147 gr. So I broke the pistol down and noticed something disturbing:

The front portion of the polymer frame has deformed spreading the firt two inches or so of the frame by at least a 1/16 to and 1/8th of an inch. This has also led to the metal guides in the frame to bow, spread and distort. I did not have any issues other than failure to feed, but I am concerned it it worsens the glides will let the steel slide come off the rails either when firing or on recoil. That could really be serious.

I have taken a few photos, but haven't figured how to add them to the post.

Tuesday I wil call Kahr and see what they recommend.

Anyone ever see this issue before?

The shape of the Kahr plastic frame makes it look like it is spreading. It hasn't moved since you bought it, trust me.

The two rails are part of the same U shaped piece of reasonably substantial metal buried in the plastic. They are much more sturdy than they appear based on the part you can see.

    No worries!
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

That is correct. The 'flare' in the first portion of the frame is by design ... it was always there. You just didn't notice it before. It exists in every "P" series gun (including PM).

Good clear pictures are a must to properly diagnose your possible problem, especially when emailing Kahr Customer Service.

I have a cm and cw9mm and both have a bit of 'flair" . Mine measure right at a .042 wider at the front of the frame than at the assembly pin.

Thanks for the input. I sent the photos to Kahr Customer Service and they say the same thing, but the damage to the right side internal rail is disturbing to them as well. I am packing it up and sending on Monday. I will keep the thread running to let everyone know what the reslts are.

I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
