I think any of these tiny guns can be troublesome, no matter what brand. And the fact is that 9*% of 'em work just fine. It looks like the P380 is past major growing pains. But being a regular here, I still see a few problems cropping up with individual P380s, and with other models. Kahr needs to tighten up on quality control, IMO, because no way some of those guns were closely examined and successfully test fired before leaving the factory.
Money is so tight for me, so I just couldn't see spending $600+ and then maybe hundreds more on range ammo and multiple trips back to the mothership. So, I decided to invest a fraction of that on another brand - the Taurus 738 TCP. I paid $191 at Bud's for a Plain Jane version, got 2 more mags and took it to my gunsmith for a fluff & buff, ramp polishing, cleaning and lubing. He even test fired it to confirm proper functioning. Just charged me $30!
Only thing is I had to wait over a month turnaround because he is a popular guy. When I picked it up, he commented on what a good trigger it has. It is a bit lighter than my CM9 with the 5 lb striker spring. Smooth, but has a place in the pull near the end where you can take up the slack, refine your aim and then fire. (I wish my CM9 trigger worked that way.) A much better trigger than the P3AT and the LCP. Also, for some reason less punishing to shoot than either of those guns. Probably not as easy as the P380, but I could have bought 2 of these guns and 2 mags and still had money left over from the price of a P380.
I took it to my range and put 19 rounds through it before I took it to my gunsmith. I was shooting 95 gr FMJ ammo, and a few of them would stick against the almost vertical feed ramp, requiring a tap of the slide to finish feeding them. Probably the shooter because my crippled hands were not used to the kick and limp wristing it a bit. The kick is surprising the first time you shoot one of these tiny 380s!
But the ramp polishing and the use of Hornady Critical Defense carry ammo is providing reliable functioning that I can trust.
Again, my investment was modest. I am very pleased with my TCP!
And I have a totally concealed way to carry it and a spare mag that I don't have to dress for or even think about, yet it is with me wherever I go. Only Bawanna and Jocko know about my secret carry method. Access to this information requires Top Secret Clearance! :001_tt2:
