  • used p380... worth the risk?

I know the early p380's had some issues....
I found a used one for sale (not sure the serial number) but it says the night sights are dated 10. Does this mean it is probably one of the older models with possible problems? The cost is decent for one with night sights, but not so nice that Im willing to totally give up a warranty on something that might give me issues.
As always you guys' help is much appreciated!

I sent my CM9 back for repairs 3 times in 4 months.

The shipping alone would have offset the savings buying used had Kahr not covered the cost.

I would never buy a firearm without a warranty even 50% off.

Labor costs for a good gunsmith in Utah will be $50 per hour.

If you are saving $150 buying the 380 it would take one service call with parts and labor to wipe out that "great deal"

      Buy new.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Out of all the guns I've owned over the last 40 plus years [aproximately 50% purchased used, 50% purchased new], the only one I ever had an issue with is the Kahr CW9. It had light primer strikes. I ended up repairing the issue myself with Kahr warranty parts.

I personally try to buy used if the firearm is in good shape and the price is right.

Most of my gun purchases are used. All my Kahrs have been used, including my P380. A couple of new recoil springs solved my issues. Mine is an all black RA model. But I never win at the lottery. Go figure.

if you do your research, and confident in the seller, I see nothing wrong with buying used ... including a P380. I recently bought a used P380 that was represented to me as a flawless break-in. The seller is an experienced shooter. I bought it, took it to the range, and put about 70 downrange to prove that fact.

I know there have been some P380 issues reported, and I don't doubt many of them are legit QC situations. But these micro sized pistols are touchy, both with ammo and shooter handling. Agree with me, or not, but I believe allot of the "issues" can be explained by shooter error and ammo choice.

My hobby for the last few years is buying and selling handguns. I have also traded for a few. I have bought a few that I'll keep. I've had some that I thought I would keep, but later discovered that I didn't like them. It's more practical to get your money back with a used gun.

I was introduced to Kahr firearms, with the recent trade of a Ruger Bearcat for a CW9. I thought it was a decent trade. I now know that I got the best of the trade. I really, really like the Kahr. The CW9 is the perfect size for concealed carry behind the hip. It disappears IWB carry. It is a soft shooting 9mm, for a pistol of this size. In short, it's perfect. I've had no problems with either factory rounds, or my re-loads.

Had I been hesitant about it being used, I would have missed out on this great little pistol. Now, I'm not saying that everything out there is good to go. Look over used firearms carefully. Learn as much about them as you can. The web is a wonderful resource. Some of the tips for checking out a 1911 are good tips for checking out Kahrs too. A lot of carry pistols are carried much, but shot little.

Larry makes a great point. If you like to check out allot of different brands, platforms, etc ... and end up going in and out of gun purchases .... buying used is a great way to have that NOT be an expensive addiction. At the most, the turnaround costs you shipping and an FFL fee.

I even thoughI own it, would stary away from any Serial # RA on a P380. Just sayin.IMO the odds are not n ur favor in that serial # sequence

once my PM45 is good to go, ive pondered the possiblities of trading for a P380.....just not sure what reliable gun id trade for a possible lemon from an unknown previous owner.

i say ask on this board.....buy a used gun from a long standing member here, youre sure to get a better shake or more truth about the gun than the guy selling it for commision.
