Is the barrel on a P9 nickel plated? I'm thinking about smoothing and polishing the parrel hood, but don't want to muck anything up.

Let the gun polish itself. After a few hundred rounds you'll see where it needs a little assistance.sigpic

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

I don't mean polish for functional reasons. It has the shiny spot at the front of the hood from "self polishing" (insert ************ joke here). I am after the 2nd kind of cool thing. I have been debating polishing the slide, but it's a CCW so I don't want the slide to draw any attention if it would happen to show a little (I know this should never happen, but you never know). The barrel hood is covered by my holster and I think it would look good polished up."To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medication to the dead." After mine broke in and showed shiny places, I got to the rest of it with some flitz and a soft cloth. Took a little bit but it evened out nicely.
Every once in a while I give it a polish with flitz lightly. Just the hood. Not the whole barrel.sigpic

dremmel is sure faster and with a polishing cone and flitz on thecone, it takes no time to do it up nicely. No dremel then hand working with flitz will give the same results... My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

To answer your first question. No the barrel is not nickle plated. It is stainless steel and you can polish it if you wish. I have polished the barrels on all of my Kahrs because I just like the way they look. I do not polish the slides however. The mat finish is better if you have to use it in sunlight.
