You have been given all sorts of good advice.
Take the mag apart and note the orientation of the spring. It is possible that the spring is in backwards. Be very very careful, might do the work inside some sort of baggie as the spring is lible to get away from you and send that lock plate a flyin. (mine got away from me a couple times but I was able to find it, wish I had used the baggie trick...)
I would forget about worrying which round it will shoot and just obtain some FMJs and run em thru to break it in. Give it about 400 or so THEN find out which JHP it likes or doesn't.
IF you still have issues after 500 rounds then you want to look into what is causing them. There are a couple mag fixes posted on the forum for different issues and stuff posted for other issues as well. IF you can not find them by looking yourself come here and explain the issue as best you can and someone will find it for you. (they always do)
