broken extractor p380

love my p380...carry's the best, OWB on multi-holster...that said, had some growing pains...cracked frame... the extractor broke 5 months ago..Kahr paid to return and fixed it .....shoots great...yesterday the extractor broke again...to kahr's credit they are sending a return label and will fix it..again....but this shouldn't be happening...
I shoot blazer brass..Winchester white box....hornady ftx for carry...I following all the cleaning and lubing as posted here...when the gun works it's great...but I gotta trust it with my life...really don't want to return it for repairs every 5 months

anyone else having/hear of this this problem with extractors?

My guess would be that it's push feeding some rounds instead of them coming up under the extractor. I'd suggest as a first course of action to check the magazines: see if any are releasing rounds to soon, have a weak spring, or have a follower that is sticking (like where it passes the magazine latch).

How many rounds between breakage? I have over 500 on mine now and it is solid with no issues at all.

That sounds puzzling - The extractors are pretty straight forward - I keep a spare and at close to 1800 rounds on each p380 have had no problem and can't see any wear. I think the chances of getting two bad extractors are pretty remote. I suspect that there is something wrong in the feed process - possibly the extractor is hanging up (springs and rod inside the channel?) which causes it to flex during the feed process? They are reasonably easy to disassemble (make the little disassembly tool out of a coat hanger - found elsewhere in this blog) and take a look inside. Checking the magazine for the delay as the follower passes over the mag catch is also a good idea - but the symptom of that problem is a misfeed at the same round every time as the mag catch slows the follower down.

My second P380 had an out-of-spec' extractor whose claw actually rested on the breech face and the cartridge rims could not fit under the claw. Kahr took it back and replaced the extractor and its pins and spring. I have spare extractors and parts for all of my Kahrs because I've had several extractors on my 9mm's depart from case ruptures on bad ammo... weak cases.

It would be interesting to see what "broke" on the extractors! That's different!

Kahr will generally replace parts... send you replacements if you email them with decent photos of the bad part... or absence thereof... as in my PM9's extractor departure with not noticeable reason! I later had the same problem with my P9 and figured out what cases were the problem and thought to shoot them in the all-steel K9... lost that one's extractor, too, but had spares by then!

thanks everyone....this extractor broke in the same place as the first on ...I'd say 700 rounds between breakage....I sent it back with mags for them to look at..Jay at Kahr is great...lets see what happens and how long it lasts.....dare I say my glock has 3000 rounds and works fine....just sayin...but I don't like carrying it...the p380 is the perfect carry for me..never leave home w/o it

I had the exact same thing happen with my P380, broken extractor. Sent the gun back in and have not had a chance to take her back out to the range. I just got rid of my Baretta 380 that was such a nice gun and very dependable! Although to big for an every day carry it was automatic! Wish they were all made this way! We will see with the replaced extractor how this one performs?

Hi folks. I'm a silent cat..usually but I do have to voice my P380 experience. To it's defense, I purchased it from the original owner making me the second. But here is the soliloquy
I appropriated it used as stated, and the previous owner had about 350 rounds in her (I kinda know the guy). It shot beautifully and I became fairly proficient with it...however the extractor exploded at the range. This was after an additional 550 rounds I'd put through it.
I was always curious of the material the extractor was made of as it appeared to be similar metal used in my 40 year old matchbox cars: pot metal. Wasn't sure, but appeared weak, and that's what went south. Of course I will claim I take immaculate care of my weapons and I think I'm fairly accurate with myself. I really admired this gun but I think this is the final straw with plastic guns in my quiver.
Kahr now has my P380 and it's 3 mags, 4 days shy of a month, and tumbleweed is on the other end. I've heard, seen, smelled or felt nothing. I'm not one to be all up someones behind to get the job done, however decent correspondence is deemed good for business. My calls to Kahr; Ensuring they received the gun was the first call..period. 3 weeks later was inquiry towards the status, which resulted in a general answer of, should be back in 3 to 4 weeks from receipt. So I sit. I've heard of some having left their weapon with Kahr for months on end. Oh well, it would be comforting to know when I "might" receive my weapon back. Similar to what I tell my customers in my repair shop if they might be waiting for their item. All that being said, when or if I receive my nice looking all black P380 back in my hands I'm going to be trading it off.
I say I'm done with plastic weapons, as idiotic as it may be, because they are the only weapons that have become non-functional. An HK pistol went south, it was out of spec. apparently. My half plastic Sig fractured a slide and the frame, and now this pretty Kahr P380 is out of service. I have 47,800 rounds through one of my FN Hi Powers, and much more in my 40 year old Browning Hi Power. Just change out springs sometime in their life and go. Similar story with the rest of my metal weapons, including a Seecamp. The only human time they spend with is with me. Kahr has sealed the deal for me, I'm done with plastic weapons as metal seems to serve my purpose for being reliable. Cheers!

I doubt that the broken extractor had anything to do with the gun having a polymer frame, but my preference is for steel too, unless I have to carry the gun all day. It's then that the polymer frame really shines. I expect anything made by man to fail at some point in time and that's what replacement parts are for. I love my P380 and won't leave home without it. The trend is toward polymer frames from all manufacturers of firearms.

Just my 2 cents worth - Have both a CM9 & CM40 that have worked very well with about 250 - 300 rounds through both of them. No problems at all. Also have a MK9 and a K40 which are steel frame. When I go to the range I shoot the steel frame pistols for practice and training purposes. The polymer frame guns are saved for their primary purpose as CCW (don't see any reason to beat up something that works for intended use - 9 summer, 40 winter). Realize all might not have this option but just can't justify beating the cr** out of my primary carry guns. Must say though that I have a couple of Glocks that have had many, many rounds through them and still work perfect.
