CW9 vs CM9

I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice. I'm considering buying two new Kahr handguns. I'm looking at a CW380 for CC and a CM9 or CW9 primarily for shooting at the range. I have read many of the reviews and comparisons of the CM9 vs the CW9 and I believe I understand the physical differences and the type of use each would be better suited for. What I believe I understand is that for CC the CM9 would be a better choice because of size. Where as for shooting at the range the CW9 would be a better choice because of size.

Here is my question to those of you that are familiar with both, is an average shooter likely to see an noticeable difference in accuracy between either of these two guns? For my use, I believe greater accuracy would be a reason to go with the CW9. However, if I'm not likely to notice any difference in accuracy between these two selections, I would choose the CM9 as it would have an advantage if I choose to CC. I know there are other factors to consider, but for this discussion I'm most interested in accuracy difference. Thanks Emmo

Cm9 is one of the best CC pistols I have ever carried. You will be happy with it, and it's better than the .380. My two cents worth.

Hi emmo and welcome to the forum!...

Basically the choice between CW and CM is what method of carry do you want to use....I like to pocket carry so I traded a CW40 for my current PM40 which is the same size as the CM9....Both CW and CM pistols are capable of fine accuracy from such a small platform and short barrel...Both pistols have the same looooong but butter smooth trigger pull so both take some time to master but it is possible to shoot fine groups with either one and if you are use to a revolver trigger they are even easier to adapt to....

If you plan to inside waistband holster carry then go with the larger CW but if you ever want to pocket carry then the CM is the choice and it may be that you won't need the CW380 after all unless you just want one....I carry either my PM40 or my Smith j frame 642 in an Uncle Mikes #4 pocket holster and I forget either pistol is there....

Which ever flavor you choose you need to read all the new Kahr prep stuff so the first range trip goes smooth....It takes time to really get good with either of these pistols if you are target shooting at a distance but they really shine at bad breath distance which is what they were designed for....Both CW and CM pistols are accurate and it's not so much the size of either but getting the feel for the long pull of a Kahr trigger...The CW might be slightly easier to shoot due to the longer grip but not so much as to matter that much to an average shooer...

I chose the CM9 for conceal carry due to it's overall size, weight, quality, and ... the great DA trigger.

And for the price, there are no comparisons...

The 9mm packs a bigger punch than the 380, so I would go with the cm9.

If you are looking for a range gun you might try the TP9. It has a longer site radius and therefore should be more accurate at longer distances.

+1 for getsome! My experience also. My CM380 is almost too small. I carry my CM9 every day in the front pocket, casual business pleated pants. CW45 inside the waist- band and a specific gun belt. The range I practice with my carry weapons but target shoot with 1911 .45 .22 Ruger and S&W Mod.19. My CW45 has the smoothest trigger of all 3 Kahrs and I am able to easily do "minute of head" shots a 25 yards. I do prefer 3-dot sights, but do fine with the Kahrs dot-post. Remember Kahrs are made for close in self protection not target specific pistols. I still have fun range shooting, am satisfied with their accuracy but mostly use them for combat accuracy, not 10 ring accuracy. Welcome. Ask plenty of questions,that is how we all learn from sharing experiences.

I have both the CW9 and the CM9. I'm an average shooter and I don't really notice an accuracy difference. It surprised me because I expected to be more accurate with the CW9.

I have all three CW380, CM9, and CW9. When I am wearing dress slacks or cargo pants I pocket CC the CM9. When I wear jeans I pocket CC the CW380. In cool weather when I am wearing a jacket I CC the CW9 in a in IWB holster. However, if it going to be range day (and I am going to shoot several hundred rounds) I shoot my all steel K9. If it is an informal range day I shoot the CW9 and function fire the others. The trigger and sight arrangement on all four are so similar that practice with one can substitute for another.


To specifically answer the question you asked the CW9 has a longer grip that allows me to get all four fingers on it and (for me) it is a better range gun than the CM9.

In my limited experience the CW is an easier gun to shoot accurately. I have a CM9 and a CW45. I have not tried a CW9, so my accuracy report is the CW45 and CM9 only. With a standard NRA 25 yard target I can shoot 5-8 points higher with the CW45 at 25 yards. So far I'm able to reliably score a 90-92 with the CW45 using 230 gr. RN factory ammo. With the CM9 I can score 82 to 85 on the same target at the same distance with 115 gr. RN factory ammo. With either gun I can keep 10 for 10 on a repair center at 25 yards. For the size the CM9 does very well on the range. I also have a Taurus 738TCP which is better for pocket carry, but the CM9 is not much bigger and will fit in most pockets too. Watch that you can draw from the pocket - which ever you choose - because I've found that some pockets are too small at the top and your hand gets stuck. The CW45 does IWB quite well. The CM9 is almost too small for IWB. I hope that helps.

Just my experience with the PM9 and the CW380. First both are great guns. I did sell the PM9 because it did not do what I wanted it to. I wanted to pocket carry it. I could get it in my cargo shorts or dress slacks pocket but not any of my jeans. I bought the CW380 in an attempt to full fill my pocket carry desire. It does. I can pocket carry it in any pants I own. I know some guys can pull it off carrying a PM/CM9 in a jean pocket but I cannot. So to do it over I would have worn my jeans to a gun store and tried a PM/CM in my pocket before making up my mind. If you can't carry a PM/CM9 in your tightest pants I would suggest a CW380 and the CW9 for IWB or OWB carry. If you can pull off the PM/CM9 in your tightest pants buy it and save the money on the CW380.

The CM380 is great for pocket carry. If you get the CM9 and/or the CW9 you'll be happy with either. You may be able to carry the CM9 in pocket if you can handle 20 oz. in your pocket. The CM380 you wont even know it's in your pocket.

I use my cm9 for cold weather carry in my jacket pocket. I pocket carry my cw.380 in jeans front pocket. Oh yeah I'm 5'11" 190 lbs.

CW9 vs CM9

I'd say get the cm9 and it covers all your needs. Small enough for pocket yet big enough to plink. I carry the cw9 and honestly it's as tiny as I would want to go. It's hardly a 3 finger grip especially with metal base plates.

I carry crossbreed iwb and it hides very we'll. I wear fitting shirts and still hides.
