  • CW9, Now Option for PPS 9

I currently have a CW9, but now I have the option to pick up a used Walther PPS 9 at a very heavy discount. My question is, does the PPS provide me with anything that my CW doesn't? I have never considered the PPS before, but at the price available I am very much considering it.

Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was a die hard fan of the PPS, but I coudln't raise the cash for it. It fit my hand perfectly, which is hard to do with my small hands. I was looking at them at my local shop and got into a conversation with the sales manager about the PPS, when he showed me his CW 9 and he strongly suggested the Kahr. I bought a used CW40 and I have no complaints so far. If money were no issue I wouldn't mind owning both, but it is an issue for me.

I can now compare the two

I picked up the PPS this afternoon. Laying the CW and PPS side by side tells me that the two are almost exactly the same size. Other differences will come out at the range.

What was wrong with the Kahr?

          Woolsocks,

Let us know how you like the PPS compared to the Kahr.

I was actually going in to buy the PPS when I instead got
the PM9. Which as you know is a little smaller than the
PPS. The PPS continues to intrigue me because it's essentially
the single stack Glock that Glock never made. My main
interest in it was hoping for an easier transition from shooting Glocks
almost exclusively the last few years. The triggers are similar.
But when I compared it side by side with the Kahrs, they just
fit my hand a lot better and were easier to conceal.

nice gun the PPs, just alittle bit heavier than the PM9 by about 5 ounces...
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

I currently have a CW9, but had a PPS for a few months and sold it. It was a great gun and always fired and was accurate, it just didn't fit my hand very well and didn't feel comfortable. It was a tad bit thinner than my CW9 and a slightly longer reach to the trigger, It felt to me because of the shape that it transfered more recoil to the shooter. I let my son shoot it and he handed it back after 20 rounds, he also has a CW9. The PPS is a great carry weapon as it can be hidden almost anywhere. Why is it being sold at such a discounted price, have you talked to the seller?

Walther PPS. Kind of like a single stack slimmed down version of
                  the P99.

Very slim, the profile foot print is almost identical to the Kahr
                  CW9/40. Glock-like action, Glock-like trigger, Glock-like takedown.
(But not Glock-like reliability. It's had its teething problems like
                  some of the Kahrs)

                  Product: PPS 9mm

                    Range Report CW9 and PPS

Saturday I took both the CW9 and PPS to the range. Here are my observation which are not scientific in the least.

                    Accuracy:
Both the CW9 and PPS are plenty accurate for their intended purpose. That means that both pistols are more accurate than I am.

                    Weight:
As mentioned earlier, the PPS is slightly heavier. When shooting this can be seen in slightly less felt recoil. However, there is very little difference in the felt recoil of the two guns.

                    Trigger:
The trigger pull on the two guns is different. I would say the PPS is better, but it is just different and thus comes down to personal preference. The PPS trigger pull is much shorter while the Kahr has a longer trigger pull. Personally, I don't see the Kahr trigger as a negative - just different. I did have some friends who were not familiar with the Kahr that were a bit surprised at how long the pull was when they first shot it.

                    Magazine Release:
The PPS has a strange trigger guard release. I am not sure how I like this yet. As with most auto-loaders, the mag release on the Kahr is right where I would expect.

                    Sights:
I have the factory sights on both pistols currently. I would have to say that the sights on the PPS are nicer. In fact, the rear sight on the Kahr fell out during my third magazine and about every other magazine after that. I found this to be very bothersome. I am glad I was at the range when this happened. It could have happened under worse circumstances.

                    Overall Feeling:
Both are quality firearms. Which do I prefer? I am not sure. I like the sights on the PPS; they stay on the gun. I may take this as an opportunity to upgrade to night sights on the Kahr. I do like the weight of the Kahr; it is easier to carry all day. I plan to keep both. Time will tell which becomes the most carried.

My thoughts go like this... If you like both, then own both. Nothing (so far) says you can't own both. I can think of no better reason to own another gun other than I can. The other reasons I can justify a new gun real quick go like this: I have a hole in my safe, (then when it's full I need a bigger safe), and it spoke to me. Those are three of the best reasons I know of to own a new gun.
Attitude: it takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile...and 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

The olive branch is considered a symbol of peace, and good will. Last time I checked, it's still a switch.

as tight as the tolerances are for the Kahr rear sight, I'd bet you either have a dovetail slot out of spec, or the sight (most likely) is out of spec. If you do decide to get the night sights, it may be a good idea to send the slide to Kahr for installation so they can inspect your slide.

                        Just a thought

btw, you won't regret the night sights on the CW.

Agreed on that plan. There was another fella here that had that issue not long ago. I never did hear if he found the cure. They are generally very very tight.

As they say "different strokes for different folks". I looked at the PPS and I definately prefer the asthetics of the CW9 better. I don't like rails on my pistols and for me, too many Glock like features. I'm not bashing Glocks, I own a G36, but I prefer other brands. After 1000 rounds, I have come to really like the Kahr trigger. I still prefer my tuned 1911 triggers but each gun has a specific purpose and the Kahr fills the CC bill for me.

If you like 'em both, then keep 'em and shoot 'em and enjoy. Single pistols get lonely.

I had a PPS 40 S&W and sold it. Just be aware that the gun will not fire without the backstrap which could mean trouble if there is an issue with fit wear etc I was just not too crazy about that design did not care for the magazines put a extra mag in your pocket and then try and remove it it's like trying to remove a fishing hook from your pocket
