  • Ammo types in CW45

I know how ammo questions turn into verbal wars on forums, so I hesitate to ask... but...

New to handguns. New CW45 in-hand. Want to pick an ammo. Not afraid of recoil but don't want to waste energy on muzzle flash. I want to get something with reasonable penetration (12-14" in gel, for example), decent and reliable expansion (say, 0.68+), and hopefully something I can get cheap, comparable (in ballistics) ball ammo to practice with.

I know Kahrs are rated for +P, but would the ammo you suggest require a heavier recoil spring? Etc.

So.... opinions on 185 vs 230, standard vs +p. Specifically from a CW45...?

    Thanks,
    The Noob

EDIT: I also know - whatever feeds reliably/yada yada. That's a given. And if forced to pick something today I'd probably go Speer Gold Dot 230 Short Barrel from tests I've watched on YouTube. But I want more info.

EDIT 2: Here is a test of the Speer Gold Dot 230 Short Barrel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWAw62lcB4M

Stick with standard pressure. This is what I carry in my P45:

Draw me not without provocation, sheath me not without honor.

I have a bit of a preference toward the standard pressure, and toward the 230 grain ammo, but the +P interests me because of the shorter barrel. However, I wonder if a lot of the extra bang ends up flaming out the end of the barrel. I'm curious about people's experience with both.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind.
