  • New Kahr P9

I posted this in general discussion but should have put it here.

I have a number of handguns. For CCW I like the size, fit and function of the Kahr P9.

My first Kahr P9 gave me a great deal of trouble. I had zero confidence in it. I did stay with it and after two trips to the factory it has performed flawlessly.

The new (Massachusetts compliant) P9 got my attention - the one with the LCI and external safety. With the DAO and safety you have redundancy in safety when carrying one in the chamber. I like the set up on the external safety - similar to what Walther uses on their PPK/S.

Since purchasing this new Kahr P9 I have put over 300 rounds through it. No break in problems at all. Uber reliable.

About half a dozen of my friends were so impressed with it they sprang for the new Kahr P9. Their results were similar to mine.

Kahr did a nice job on this model. For those of you out there who are considering one I recommend it.

Hi, Fred. I like the P-sized Kahrs, too. I had a K9 for 16 years but didn't like to carry it... too heavy for my shorts and tees/polos here in Florida. The P9 and P40 are the same size but weigh 8 ounces less and were about as easy to conceal... using the same holsters that I got my my PM9. I get the PM9, P9, P40, and the PM45 in the same Cross Breed Mini Tuck holster, and use a Looper Kydex-reinforced gun belt to have a really secure carry rig. I carry an 8-round extended grip magazine in a Kydex holder on my opposite side for a MAX reload... 8+1+8.

I did customize the 7-round mags for my P9 by replacing the base plate with the black metal ones and adding a 3/32" by 3/4" ID neoprene O-ring... prevents pinches... bad in .40!

I added a ported barrel from Kahr while they were on sale for $129.99 and now get a tad more velocity and not much drama upfront as the flash is thrown away and up, not just up like my ported P40 and G23C. The P9 still fits most of the holsters that aren't closed at the bottom, but the Mini Tuck is my main holster and I have a couple.

If you decide you've started a thread/post in the wrong forum, it's a good idea to edit and delete one and so you keep the relevant posts together, else you're jumping back and forth between two separate threads on the same topic... kind of like carrying on the same conversation with different groups in two separate rooms at the same time.
