CW9 vs Shield

I bought a CW9. Put a hogue grip on it and it shoots fine. My brother bought a Shield 9mm and I like the trigger a lot. Has anyone ever done an evaluation on the two now that the Shield has been out for a while? Pros and cons on both? I like the captured spring on the Shield and wonder why someone has not made one after market for the Kahr.

The CW9 does not need a captured spring or it would have one. The difference in the 2 pistols is just a matter which one you like/shoot the best. They are both fine pistols.

I own a Shield and previously owned a CW9. Both are great guns.

If you go to the Smith and Wesson forums some owners are having problems with the Shield recoil spring assembly coming apart. I have about 400 rounds through my Shield and haven't had a problem.

My BIL has a Shield and I have Kahrs. I agree with lefty --- both fine guns --- it's just preference. BTW - he totally neglects his Shield but it still runs fine. I pamper my Kahrs and they run fine too. But I tried a 700 round torture test of my K40 and it ran without a hitch. I guess I wouldn't recommend that for any gun.

I have a CM9 which I pocket carry daily. I have a 40 S&W Shield which I carry in a deep concealment 12:00 pouch, a cell phone leather Hide It Holster, and a soft waist band pouch beneath the sweat shirt while jogging.
I bought the Shield because I wanted a thin carry .40 cal for defense against large dogs, which in my neighborhood are more of a threat than people, Also wanted a thumb safety when carried at 12:00 and in the jogging pouch which is soft enough the trigger can be pulled through the cloth.
Cons Shield: sights were off to left and impossible to move. Had gunsmith remove and replace with night sights. Pro: 100% reliability. A little less difficult to field strip and reassemble than Kahr.
Cons CM9 (not the CW9): 75 rounds to break in,in my book this is not a con. Pro: fits in my pocket better than the Shield.
Pro: CW9 = longer barrel than Shield for about same size gun=more muzzle energy. As in many things size matters. If you can not have wider at least you can have longer.
Both are reliable and have well controlled muzzle flip due to design. Neither are made for range guns, I keep my shooting sessions short.
I like them both. Personal preference is the Kahr. I just like the "dot the i sights" and long smooth trigger pull. I had XS Big Dot and post sights installed on the Shield.
I have a CW45 which I belt carry. My favorite trigger of all. Pro: does not have a thumb safety and with longer, smooth trigger does not need one. Con: Kahr triggers take getting used to through practice.
Bottom line try them both, it is a personal preference thing.

I own both a 9mm & .40 M&P Shield, a Kahr CW40 and just ordered a Kahr K9 stainless w/ night sights. My 9mm shield has over 4k rounds and not one single issue with the recoil spring. Personally I feel half of the "complaints" on the S&W forums is baloney anyway that have no merit and/or half truths. My CW40 has 750 flawless rounds. I would have no problem in carrying any of these pistols. But if i had to choose between the CW9 & a Shield 9 I would lean more towards the Shield, for the money you get 2 mags & easier breakdown and lifetime warranty.

I have the 40 shield and the cm9 so pretty close to the CW

The shield I carry when I bicycle and workout. When I do those activities I use a smart carry and the Kahr lacks a safety.

The trigger can be pushed ( not easy though ) from outside the holster pouch. Hence I view it as questionably unsafe with a round in the chamber.

So I carry the shield with the safety on for BG, dogs etc. I. The other pouch is OC a mag and light as well.

The triggers are a bit different. The Kahr reminds me of a revolver and I use the 2nd finger pad to engage

Feel is different on both but excellent. The reset is a bit different as well but not a big deal

Usage

As stated both I carry appendix; the Kahr in the summer and shield in the winter.

The Kahr can back pocket carry as well I use a holster from braids that works well.

The shield is just enough heavier and bigger that it's not a pocket carry option IMO

I had a 40 shield. Went to trade it on a 9 shield, but ended up with a CT380 and a CW45. I like them both and could recommend either. The shield is easier to take down and maintain. I prefer the sights on the Kahr. The CW45 seems to fit my hand a little better than the Shield. The Shield has a better trigger. I also like how the Shield drops its magazines, I have to pull them from both of my Kahrs.

The bottom line for me? I chose the Kahrs because of the chamberings. I just am not a real fan of the 40S&W or the 9 Luger.The Shield just barely edges out the Kahr in my opinion, barely!

Good advice. My PM9 and Shield 9 (with Apex Tactical hard sear) are two great concealed carry options.

I have a MK9 and a Springfield EMP in 9mm. I shoot the MK9 better but prefer the EMP. Both are all metal, my preference. I had a S&W Shield and liked it but sold it for the MK9. That was a good choice for me.
