First time using my CW40 for IDPA

Not normally my idea choice for IDPA however since it is one of my primary EDC's I'd thought I'd give my CW40 a "shot" & see how I perform with it in defensive type situations where I'm being timed & scored on accuracy with the added stress of all my friends watching.

I strapped on my Alien gear OWB holster on my right hip and a Fobus dual single stack mag holster on my left. 3 Magazines loaded up with Ten ring (academy sale $14.98 a box of 50!) 180 gr. FMJ's and scored a total time of 124.79 out of 4 stages coming in 4th place out of 10 participants. Not bad...

I bought the pistol new about 7 months ago & to date ran 700 flawless rounds thru it. I clean the pistol after each use along with the mag's using M Pro-7 & frog lube & lube according to the lube charts here on this forum. The dot the I sights allow for quick & easy target sighting making for fast follow up shots. Having been shooting revolvers since the late 80's before switching to 9mm last yr I find the Kahr trigger to be exceptionally smooth & has a nice clean, crisp break. Recoil was manageable & somewhat comparable to a warm 9mm IMO. Pistol is completely bone stock with the exception that I added a Hogue Handall jr. grip. Which fits perfectly & wont slip around, at all.

My overall thoughts on the CW40. It is one of the smoothest shooting handguns I've ever shot, real world accuracy & a very reliable pistol. I think it is a perfect CCW choice. Pic is when I just bought the pistol...

Well done! I've been carrying a CW40 for 'bout 7 years now. At this point it's my favorite carry pistol!

I've just ordered a stainless K9 w/nightsights from Bud's gun shop. Should come in some time next week... In the meantime I've ordered some xtra mags for it and was planning on giving that a shot in the near future...

My CW40 I a favorite shooter of mine. I had one stovepipe In the first box of shells I ran thru it. Since then, it has never failed to do exactly what I bought it for. EAT AMMO!

Currently tweaking on it "just cause..."

That's what everyone keeps saying. By coincidence I just recieved a email from Bud's with.......My tracking number! Should be here this tuesday!

In addition to the CW40 I also own a M&P Shield 9mm & a Shield 40. Both are very nice in their own right however I keep going back to Kahr as my EDC. What I like the most about the Kahr pistols is the feel of the grip in my hand and that smooth DAO trigger. No safety to mess with, just pull & go. The CW40 is without doubt the smoothest single stack 40 I've ever shot for the money...

I've been using my Shield 9mm in IDPA for the past 4 months and what really surprised me with the CW40 was that I didnt even notice the recoil during the stages and that the "long" DAO trigger had no impact on my score. In fact, I got my best score to date using the CW40!

I'm really starting to dig Kahr pistols.

I alternate between my CW40 and CM45. If I'm going to be doing a lot of walking, I grab the 40, if I'm going to be sitting a lot, I take the 45, since it's a bit more comfortable when sitting.
I feel adequately armed with either pistol and a spare mag.

If you like .40 cal. and Kahr, try a K40 if you get a chance.

I admit I've been a S&W fan boy for some time and of course my M&P shield 9 was my primary carry up until I bought my CW40. The smooth DAO trigger and not having to fumble around w/ an external safety is what sold me on kahr. After some research, I decided to invest in a quality all metal pistol. I choose a Kahr K9. I also placed my order with Freedom munitions (during their free shipping Labor day sale!) and coincidentally that shipment comes in the same day as the K9... 124 gr. fmj's.... So as soon as I get it I'm gonna field strip it, clean & lube it and take it to the range & put a couple hundred rounds thru it. ( I clean & lube all my pistols after shooting) once I go thru a couple hundred of rounds, I'll load up with my fav defense loads & see how that does. I like winchester's train & defend's 147 gr. JHP as my carry loads. I'll experiment around with others, mainly Remington golden sabers, Federal hydra shoks & see which ones function the best however I'm expecting the K9 to digest whatever I feed it.

Back to my CW40. I did try Federal hydra shoks in 135 gr. & 180 gr. winchester PDX1 165 gr. Federal HST 180 gr. Hornady custom xtp 155 gr. and in all honesty I felt it was a toss up as far as accuracy. But overall "feel" I felt I liked the 135. gr hydra shoks the best..... Sure had a nice snap to it!

Practice loads were mainly Freedom munitions 165 gr. FMJ's & Remington UMC 180 gr.. 200 rnds of FM went by smooth & with the UMC I had only 1 empty out of a box of 250 get caught in the slide during ejection. I personally feel UMC ammo stinks but it was cheap at the time... Using name brand self defense loads I never experienced any issues at all...

My last stage at my IDPA match was a speed challenge. Standing 7 yards from a IDPA target 6 rounds as fast as you can go from retention. IE, pistol in its holster under concealment. My score first time using my CW40 was RAW-2.78 / PD-3 / P-0 / FIN-4.28
