  • Spare Parts for CW40

Another thread got me thinking about this.
I'm a new Kahr CW40 owner and would like some advice on what spare parts I should have in stock for mishaps. I love this weapon and it works perfect. It came out of the box sited perfect. With just 70 rounds so far no failures of any kind. However this is a mechanical device and will need some parts replaced at some point and I would like to have sort of a small parts inventory for this excellent little gun.

    So far I'm guna get:
    Followers
    Mag springs
    Recoil Spring

    and what else?

    added:
    Striker spring guide
    Striker spring

I have a CW9 i purchased new in Sep. 2008 i have almost 800rds. downrange and not a glitch even during breakin. The only spare parts i would add to your list would be a Striker spring guide and a Striker spring.I say this because if you do have any light strike problems you can strip the slide and replace Striker spring to see if it is the culprit.

And i added Striker spring guide because anyone that has stripped there slide knows it and the striker spring can go flying into space never to be found if you are not very careful.

But remember Kahr has a 5 year warranty and will replace any defective part. But i share your need for spare parts but only springs for now.I did replace the original guide rod with a stainless steel one ordered from Kahr.

        Thanks for the thread

slowpoke, I wanted to write to say thank you for starting this thread. I would like to have a few "necessary" spare parts on hand as well for my PM9 should the need for a timely change arise. I'm looking forward to see what other suggestions others have.

The slide stop spring is quite small and delicate looking.

I you take care and put the slide stop leve rin like it should, your slide stop spring willbe OK. I have 30,000 rounds through my PM9 and it is the original slide top spring. I cannot stress enough to owners here that just take your time and you willhave no issues. and for damn sure don't mess with that little screw that holds the slide stop spring in either. That screw threads right into the polymer and if you get my gist, , it means there is not much holding that screw in place and a half turn to much will just strip the threads out and then my friends u are screwed. That holds the slide stop spinrg in place but it does not tighten up like a normal screw in stell on steel, so again just leave that springy thing along, don't take it apart unless it is absolutely necessary. treat it right and it will give you zero issues, screw with it and you will have issues.

if there is one durability flaw in these polymer kahrs it is that exact screw/polymer thing. One really doesnt read of issues in that area also, so basically to me it means that if you treat that area right and install the slide stop lever properly, it should serve u well. I just wish that screw went into a threaded metal insert. The threads in that little screw are so so fine that I cannot see how they hold at all but they do....

I know I have harped on this before and some keep seeing this post but to me it is the most important 'LEAVE ALONE THING" on a kahr. You can play with every other part on a kahr and not screw things up. Screw in this area and expect future problems.

That slide stop spring has to work correctly and that little screw and washer hold it in place. If that screw becomes stripped and ceases to hold then the slide stop sprng will move around and that is when you will also get premature slide stoppage.

              OK enough said....
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border
