  • Experiment: Discreet Carry Case for CW9 Mags

As much as I love the CW9's light weight and small size, it'd be nice to have a few more rds on-hand "just in case".
Well, I wanted something discreet and easy to carry and heard about an undercover detective trick I thought I'd check out:
This is a cheap ($20) Case Logic cell phone case w/magnetic cover from Wally World shown w/2 loaded CW9 mags:

Here it is w/the the 2 mags as they fit (perfectly!) in the case:

Now you see them, now you don't!:

The first mag is fairly quick to access (2nd is much slower), just flip the magnetic cover up, press up against the bottom of the lower mag through the hole in the bottom of the case and the top mag is easily grasped:

The case attaches to the belt w/a spring clip and is fairly tight, the mags make no noise whatsoever when the case is shaken (probably due to the snugness of the fit and the magnet in the side of the case).
First impressions are good, I'll try this setup every day when carrying the CW9 and see if any flaws become apparent.

Interesting. I have a couple old cell phone holsters laying around. Might have to give this a try. How inconvenient is it to have your magazines facing opposite directions? I carry one spare mag in a Leatherman case now and it's always facing the same direction so my draw/insert motion is always identical.

I've been using a nearly identical case for awhile now and it works perfectly. I never tried two mags at once, never thought of it. It's quiet with one. Only issue I thought of is I carry two phone cases. They are on opposite sides and the mag case is usually covered by the same garment that covers the gun so probably not a big issue. Other than I feel like inspector gadget sometimes. What price tranquility?

I gave that a try also but the gap between the flap and case end was about an inch and the mags were very visible. If I come across a cheap case that really hides them I'll try again for my non-tacticool levis without the secret mag compartment.

It's inconvenient only for the 2nd mag. The 1st I have set up so it's as natural a grasp for reloading as possible when it exits the case. If I have to resort to the 2nd mag then I've already expended 15rds and am probably in more trouble than the 2nd mag can take care of...

If I'm going into a situation where I feel I must carry the reloads yet worry that someone might spot 2 cell phone cases then I'll slip the cell phone sans case into my pocket.
