Wannabe Kahr owner

Good morning all! I am probably in the minority here since I don't own a Kahr but that is a problem that I'm seeking to correct.

Since I intend to pocket carry (with a holster, of course), I think the PM9 is the best choice for me. For those of you out there who use pocket holsters, how does that work out for you? Does anyone have any bad experiences?

I'm also wondering if the blackened slide is worth it. It seems to me like that would make it less visible and less prone to corrosion. Any thoughts on those issues?

I appreciate any help with making my decision.

IMHO; If it's in your pocket, who cares what color it is? Save your money for night sights instead.

You will find that the pm9 is probably one of the most popular pistols around if it is not the most. Many also pocket carry it. The DLC (blackened slide) is a treatment applied to it that is as tough or more than that of Glock's. Good luck finding one though, they seem to be a rare breed.

The PM9 is an excellent [can I say perfect] pocket carry gun. Since I live in Georgia, I pocket carry about eight months of the year with a larger PM45 and sometimes a CW9 w/o a problem. As for as the blackened slide, I like shiny toys. Of my nine active pistols, only two are black, an M&P 45 and a thirty year old P225.

Regardless of whether or not you get one with a blackened slide,you won`t go wrong with the PM9.It carries easily in the pocket or IWB.[IWB is my personal favorite.] When you buy it,clean and lube it well and go through the 200 round break in period.Racking the slide helps to loosen it up too.Find some personal defense ammo that the gun likes [I`ve yet to find any that it had a problem with] and you`ll be set.Good luck and let us know how things go.

I tried for several years to make my PM9 work as a replacement for my pocket-carried weakside S&W 642. The 642 carried in a DeSantis Nemesis or Superfly always offered a smooth draw from my pocket (very very important to me) , but has terrible sights, is slow to reload, and only has five rounds on board. The PM9 offered higher capacity, was easier to shoot with speed and accuracy, has much better sights, offered ammo (but not magazine) commonality with my primary gun, much simpler faster reload, etc.

After trying several different pocket holsters (DeSantis Nemesis, Uncle Mike's synthetic ambi model, Galco ambi suede model, Kahr ambi pocket holster, etc) I never could find one that would allow a smooth consistent snag-free draw from my pockets with the PM9. I found that the PM9 actually seemed too short in slide length for my pockets, allowing the gun to sit so low in my pockets that I had to cram my fat hand very far into the pocket to access the gun. I also found that the somewhat square shape of the back of the slide tended to catch on the inner edge of my pocket, fouling the draw.

So I have contented myself with carrying the 642 as backup to my Glock 34.

I think the success of a particular gun as a pocket piece for a particular person is dependent on several factors: size, weight, and shape of the gun itself, size and shape of your pockets, fit of your pants/shorts(loose vs. tight), type of holster, size and shape of your hands, the person's dexterity, expectations of speed and smoothness of draw, etc. What works for one person may not work so well for another, and vice versa.

my two cents, I have pocket carried my PM9 since day one. That was the reason I bought it. I wear jeans 24/7, ride a harley 24/7 and carry in a desantis. I have a drawer half full of high dollar quality leather pocket holtsters, that just never pleased me as much as that cheapo desantis. Front pocket carry is never going to be a fast draw area, and if u wear jeans, as most will do that even adds to the difficulty of that being a fast draw area. I have never found a leather holster that I have bought that worked "much" better than my desantis, certainly never found a better conforming holster than my desantis. Leather takes a long time to break in to the conformity of one body etc. Maybe I never gavemine a chance to do that either, but my 2 cents is that if you think your gonna buy a holster that allows fast draw front pocket usage. I think you will be dissapointed. Not to say thatif you avd 10 different pocket holsters that one would be better than all the rest, but IMO it sitll would not fit the bill as a fast draw holster, for clothing plays a very very big part and jeans are tight pocketed, at least mine are. Cargo pocket jeans probably would work better but IMO they look like hell..

Thanks for the ideas. I guess the time for pocket carrying would be the summer when I'm wearing cargo shorts, which should allow me to draw pretty easily. I might have to find an alternative method for the rest of the year when I'm in jeans.

Like others have said the black slide is hard to find. I just ordered a P9 in black and it took a while to find it. I don't think it offers any additional corrosion protection.
I just like the look of all black.

stainless barrell is the way to go, the black can chip and peel off, i see no reason to coat an already stainless steel barrell but thats just me.

But if you decide you want more of a full grip on your pistol and still be small and slim P9 my friend, can't lose.

Is carrying a P9 in your pocket feasible? I have considered the P9 or CW9 but the smaller size of the PM9 is what appeals to me. The PM9 isn't too much larger than a .380 and I'd much prefer 9mm over .380.

Go with the PM9 if your thinking of pocket carry. The rest just won't fill the bill in that regard.

PM9 and u will never look back. I have a P380 and love it but also never carry it, as my pM9 can ride the same place and yes indeed it is all about "firepower"..:israel:
