  • Which 380 round did you decide on for personal defense?

Just curious to see what everyone else is carrying in their Kahr 380. Currently I’m carrying Underwood XTP jhp in mine and in my spare mag. I’ve also carried their xtreme defender and Federal’s hydra-shok. I’m not to hung up on ammo in 380, just curious more than anything. Oh, I also carry Critical defense sometimes. That round is as reliable as they come for me. I shoot a lot and my carry ammo always gets shot too so I'm always changing it out.

I carry Golden Sabre, because I had about 500 rounds on hand when I acquired the Kahr .380.
I know it's not the latest and greatest, but it feeds well and I have plenty of it. As my ole friend Andy G. used to say, "beats a pointy stick".

Hornady Critical Defense. Never a failure of any kind.

My pistol loves the Critical Defense, as well. I've also had luck with the Underwood XTP rounds in +P, which is a nice alternative. It also seems to really like the ARX rounds, although I'm not yet sure that I have full faith in those yet.

I can't cycle the Underwood Extreme Defense, which is a pity, but I'm more than happy with those choices above.

          Lehigh Xtreme Defense or Penetrator.

muggsy: Let's face it, being shot by a .380 will ruin anyone's day.

I haven’t had a chance to try the penetrators yet but mine cycles the defenders great.

I carry Hornady’s Critical Defense in my P380 in the 6 rnd and my spar 7 rnd mags. No FTF/FTE issues at all. They go bag each & every time.
Carry it based on this test:

That test doesn’t look so good to me. Normally critical defense expands much better in other gel testing I’ve seen.

Don’t disagree but for a 2.5” barrel in a P380 vs 3.25” barrel for the Glock 42 that is probably the best Your going to get. Looks like that .75” difference really helps the expansion & penetration.
If you find better out of a 2.5” barrel please let me know.

Another Critical Defense fan. Zero FTF/FTE. Absolute confidence in this round. There are a few ballistic gel test videos where it comes up short, but most are pretty good for a .380.

I didn't post that to disagree with you...I was actually just adding another vote of confidence for the CD round. I actually bought a couple hundreds of the standard CD and the "zombie" green tips when I caught them on a couple of good sales. 12" of penetration with even moderate expansion is good enough for me to carry. Especially when you factor in that it's a) easy feeding for most micro pistols, and b) isn't a +P round that is going to beat the crap out of your little gun.

Sorry I misunderstood your comment. I apologize. I’m so use to defending my EDC P380, that I go defensive immediately.

No need to defend it to me, I’m carrying the same thing with the same ammo. Great minds [emoji1303]. I’m in no way delusional about the short falls of this decision, but this is the only gun that I can carry 100% of the time. At least it gives me a chance unlike the 9mm in the truck.

Absolutely agree on both “Great Minds” & 100% EDC. I don’t leave the house w/o it.
