hey guys I just got a a new (to me) p9 my question is this, Is it normal for the guide rod to stick out the front of the slide at all? This was a used gun and I shot it today about 100 rnds no problems at all. But the guide rod is sticking out the front of the slide about 1/4 an inch. It is a metal guide rod so i am ssuming it has been changed at some point. I guess not a big deal since it works but looks a little odd. LKM your thoughts on this if you can. Thx so much Joel

get a new guide rod from kahr, Kahrs guide rods are metal but I think that is to far also.

A proper guide rod should be essentially flush with the face of the slide. If it works and doesn't bother you, and because it can't harm anything, there's no reason to replace it. If it bothers you, get a new one from Kahr for abut $28.
IMHO, it's a good idea to install a new recoil spring in almost any used pistol, so you may want to order a few springs as well if you decide to replace the rod.

standard P9 guide rods are about $3.30. order a new recoil spring while your at it... My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Shoots like a dream which is why it seems even more strange. I know its just gotta be too long, cause the gun locks up nice and tight, seems odd but works like a charm. Thanks for all your replies any more thoughts Id be glad to have them. Thanks JoelComment

for all the help guys. I talked to Kahr a few mins ago and they said that it was definitely an aftermkt guide rod and they do have to be hand fitted meaning, you guessed it, I am going to do a little gunsmithing this evening, however like jocko said "if it ain't broke..... go for it, at the worst u can ruin it and then spend $4 and get a new guide rdo from kahr.

Check and see if it is a solid guide rod or if it is hollow from the breach end.
If it is solid then it is probably a Steve Bedair Guide Rod. If so then you would be better off leaving it as is. Scroll the forum under Kahr-Tech for his thread and you will find out all the good reviews of his guide rods!!Comment
