  • Kahr CW9 grip remedy questions...

I am new to the forum, just joined today actually. But here is the scoop, I just purchased my first Kahr yesterday after ALOT of research and debate regarding C.C. and I am more than happy ( possibly ecstatic ) with the firearm, but.... As a lot of fellow owners are aware of the plastic rib protrusions on the gun are horrific in my opinion, so I hit Bass Pro Shops last night looking for a remedy, I tried every slip on grip they had available from Houge to Pachmayer of every numerical size. I decided upon the Pacamayer (forgot the number size, and threw out the package at checkout, maybe a mistake) and its a nice fit but not tight enough, after holstering, drawing, walking and sitting it slides around a bit. Does anyone know of a remedy for this? One that will keep it in place without damaging any part of the stock handle? Thank you in advance and I will check back often. ( FYI this is my first and only forum so I am very unsure of how to use a forum, if this is posted in the incorrect place please let me know and dont respond in a negative fashion if I made a mistake.) Thank you all!

I use the Pachmayr #4 on my P9. It doesn't slip at all.

Is this the one you bought, with the single finger bump?
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

No, actually its a Pacamayer "tactical" I believe. I trimmed about 1/16 of an inch of the bottom to ensure no interference while quickly changing magazines.

I like the qwik grip #3. It fits tight and doesn't have the finger groove. I use it on my P9.

9mmFL, you hit the jackpot right out of the starting gate landing on one of the very best forums. Not bad for your very first one. You didn't have to sort thru all the lesser ones to find the best.
One thing we dont do here very often is negative. I attribute our success not only to our fearless and understanding Administrator JohnH and Supermod JustinN but to the flexibility they allow.
Perhaps even more so is the multitude of genuinely nice guys and one gal (we're recruiting females constantly).
Being born 100 years too late, I'm handicapped (in more ways than one) but especially on this technology stuff. The gang here is always helping me deal with my shortcomings.
So don't plan on getting jumped on any time soon for transgressions unless of course you thrive on negative, rude, and impolite. That wouldnt be compatible.
Welcome, we're glad you found us.
As to your grip issue the innertube out of the neighbor kids bike will work perfect till you sort out the perfect store bought set up.
BE nice if them grips was like shrink wrap where a little heat would make them a perfect fit.

Well, you can use a little heat but that might not be a wise idea. Welcome to the asylum. A bunch use that inner tube bit, and having tried it myself, it does what they say it does, but does nothing for me. Some here like the decal grips, some like What-a-Grip (Wally World tennis racket grip tape like stuff), some use A-Grip. Search the threads, you'll find a bunch of stuff on the subject, while you're there, read the lube diagram, and jocko's proper prep stickies as well. You'll find a bunch of good stuff round these parts, now go forth and shoot that little pop gun till it knows how much you love it, rinse and repeat.

                9mmFL:
                Welcome.
To expand on Mr.B's suggestion of a glock sock (bicycle inner tube) I want to add another advantage I have experienced going this way.
The aggressive grip finish of the CW series (PM too) "prints" through the inner tube so it does not become slick when wet as would be expected.
And, without any finger bumps/grooves, cannot become out of alignment.
                just sayin'
                Tilos
Note: I'm thinking the FL means Florida, and as a fellow Floridian can atest to the glock sock not being slippery with sweaty hands.
I apologize if my post contains the same or similar information as someone who has posted before me.

Well I appreaciate the info, I will attempt a little tape under the grip to heft it up a notch. I made the comment regarding negative feedback based upon what I typically read while researching firearms on the 100's of forums out there (people can be quite rude out there when hiding behind a keyboard.). I do believe forums are much more informational in terms of real life experience, pros vs cons, likes and dislikes. I am a picky person and it was between this CW9, Taurus PT706 (which was quickly disregarded), and a SR9C (then thrown out given that in person its anything but my idea of a carry gun and I am still unsure of the "C", but what the h*ll do I know? j/k) And I actually found this forum when I searched "guide rod for a CW9" because mine is not very aesthetically appealing after 140 rounds. But THANK YOU ALL for the warm welcome and I hope to learn more considering thats life....

Just for the fun of it I might just pick up an inner tube from Wally World and try that on the CW9 or my PX4, considering the last time I was in the market for an inner tube I was probably 12 and I don't keep up to date with the current bike trends... Is there a particular size you guys would recommend or do they only come in one size...

                      Welcome to the forums
In regards to your grip sleeve, get yourself some self-fusing silicone repair tape (like Mighty Fixit or Rescue Tape: the first as seen on TV, the latter can be found at ACE, Best, and True Value hardware stores). A couple of turns of it on the frame should give you tighter fit when you reinstall the Pachmayr sleeve. Regular electrical tape would also give a tighter fit, but the adhesive on it will gradually breakdown and the tape will slip some (messy as well.)
                      Regards,
                      Greg

Just another comment regarding inner tubes.
A bicycle shop changes many flats in the course of a day and discard the punctured tube in MANY sizes.
The descarded tubes are usually FREE for the asking and they use much thinner tubes than can be bought at a Walleyworld type store.

Cyclists are weight weenies and buy and discard light weight tubes that add no bulk when used as a glock sock(or Kahr tire).
Also, I use alcohol to help install the tube....makes it slippery.

Don't mention GUN! at the bike shop.
Tell them you are making bird feeders or something socially acceptable.

I've been on bike rides and teased about my fanny pack as being a Sissy Sack.
My answer is always, "Where else can I carry my gun?"
That has never gotten any response except a long silence... then, oh
I've noticed too, it's never the same person who asks either.

                            just sayin'
