Trijicon sights from KAHR CW9.

For 80$ they sound like a steal but I searched the forums and came across a few posts regarding screw issues and the 9mm's not going into battery.

I was wondering if anyone has purchased the trijicon's from KAHR in the last few months?
Also did you install? or did a smith install?
Overall how have they held up? would you recommend them to others?

I really want to upgrade my little guy with some of these but really want to know if I should attempt this (it can't be that tough...right?) Or should I have a smith or Kahr do it for me? Enlighten me please

Mine came with the gun. They've been great so far (only ~500 rounds).

The front sight on the CW's is easy. Just bust the ole one off and the new one drops on and either has screws or gets peened from underneath. I don't recall specifically which method Trijicon uses but several here have replace them with no problems.

The rear sight sometimes drives out ok but they can also be extremely tight. Very tough to get off. In those cases a sight pusher to get it started is a wonderful thing but not worth the price for one sight change. I've also seen some that were so tight the pusher wouldn't do it, had to use the punch to pop it loose. All depends on if your up to a challenge or not. Sometimes the safest and best thing to do is send it to the pros. If they mess it up they will make it right..........................

If you decide to have it done, you can just send the slide alone and send it regular mail and save postage.

9mmfl, no smitty need to install on your cw, order the sights, they are a breeze to install. If Bawanna can do it, u certainly can!!!

I agree, if I can do it, you can do it, anybody can do it. But sometimes it's just blind hog luck that gets me thru, actually it's always blind hog luck that gets me thru. If that dang hog ever gets lasik surgery or glasses, my life is over.

I installed a Trijicon front sight on my CW9 just this morning (I got the sight from Kahr last week). I did have issue with the sight screw preventing the gun from going into battery; well actually, it was bad enough to preclude assembly of the pistol. I was able to work around it by cleaning up and enlarging the countersink done by Kahr on the front sight post hole.

How the screw fits in the OEM hole (note that the screw protrudes quite a bit into the barrel tunnel):

With the screw protruding into it's tunnel, the barrel will go no further into battery than this:

The screw no longer protrudes into the barrel tunnel; this allows the barrel to go fully into battery.

Thanks! That hole is slightly offset under the slide's tunnel so you can't just bore straight down into it. I used various tips on a Dremel to "get-r-done"; mostly this one:

It's not elegant, but it works. I think a ball tip bit with a shank small enough to fit through the hole in the slide would do a better job. You could attach the Dremel on the back side of the slide and pull the cutting head straight down into the hole. I don't know if there is such a bit, but someone with a lathe (unfortunately,not me) could turn down the shank on something to do the job.

Thanks for the quick reply and all the photos. If all goes well with my new CW9 I plan to do the front sight only myself. Gotta dig out my Dremel from the closet.

You're welcome. FWIW: Dawson Precision makes a front night sight for the CW series. It's metal and instead of a screw they send a tool with the sight that flares the front tube/post to hold the sight in place. That probably would not require any additional work on the slide.
