  • NEW P9 with STEEL guide rod?

I just prurchased a new P9 from my local small town gun dealer. When I was tearing it apart to give it its initial cleaning, I noticed the guide rod was steel. I was under the impression that they were all plastic or nylon. Do I have an older model or what. I can assure you it's new as it was still in its plastic and well oiled!

    Thanks,
    Dan

The P9 guide rods are steel, aways have been. I haven't owned all Kahr models, just seven of them and all had steel rods. What made you think they were plastic?
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

Well Hell! Maybe I got it mixed up with the PM9s I was reading about? Thanks though. I just didn't want to think I bought a model that had been sitting on the shelves forever.

Sorry all. I could've sworn that from the posts I was reading that some of the models had plactic guide rods. My bad. Thanks for the help though.

No need to be sorry around this place. Figuring out stuff is what we do. Alot of old beliefs have been dispelled and alot of new beliefs have been created.

Hang out with us long enough and everything will make sense in one form or another. Maybe.

                Plastic Guide Rod

Don't worry or fell bad I had the same misconception about Kahr guide rods on certain models. When I bought my CW9 it was steel. Several nice people on this forum told me it was not so! I must have read that on another forum? Anyway you are really going to like your new Kahr.

Probably a mix-up with the Keltec P9F which IS plastic (just verified)! The numbers of the pistols are almost identical.

Well I must say I made the same mistake. I ordered the stainless guide rod for my new P9 and apparently I wasted my money. When I was looking at the parts website it mentioned a stainless steel guide rod, and the package it same in says it increases weight at the muzzle. Is it really just for the CW9. Why in the world do they sell a stainless rod for a gun that comes with an Ion Bonded steel rod in the first place???

Any body want to buy a stainless guide rod for a P9 or CW9???

My brand new P380 has a plastic guide rod. Thinkin about getting a steel Steve Bedair guide rod soon... but the plastic one should last a very long time...

Probably one less thing to rust. My guide rod looks like it has taken a beating. I would hate to expose it to salt air and expect it not to rust.

I think the primary reason is the increased weight-reduces muzzle rise and recoil SLIGHTLY!

Put one in my CW40-can't say I see any difference. I need to get off my lazy butt and send the slide and barrel to MagnaPort--THAT'LL make a difference!!!

enough alone, that polymer guide rod is just what it is a guide rod. I have seen some chewed up looking polymer guide rods but never one that failed. Going to a stainless one will really not add any appreciable weight either tohelp ones shooting, that is a myth IMO and the metalones will show the same wear marks as the polymer. I live by the motto. "If it ain't broke, dn't fix it".
