Curious...CW9

I should have my CW9 by wedsday so this may be abit premature. I hear that the CW9 trigger is like a long smooth DA trigger, kinda heavy. Can the trigger pull be lightened? I've held a few Kahrs including the CW9 but I didnt dry fire, I'm not a fan of dry firing a gun. I may be just fine with the CW9 stock trigger but I was just a little curious. Anybody know what the stock pull is rated? I have a LCR and it has a smooth heavy trigger at 8-9lbs (so I'm told) and I find that a little too heavy. I like a DA around 6lbs max.

There's a lighter striker spring that has been reported to help. Never used one personally tho.

I'd make sure it works ok with the ammo I planned on carrying, if using for defense.

Forget about the trigger pull pounds Hully ... or how heavy you've heard that the trigger is ... shoot your new CW9 and see if it's accurate & reliable in your hands, and whether it meets your needs for a protection weapon. When the SHTF, you won't know whether the trigger is 2 pounds or 12 pounds ... you'll just be concerned that your shots are hitting the target, until the target, i.e. threat, is "stopped".

i read once of the same question. i also wanted to do the same thing until i read a reply that in not so many words said this, why the hell would you want i lighter trigger? its the only safety you have!

Thanks guys. Your right, I shouldnt jump the gun (pun intended!), The first thing I need to do is get very well aquainted with the CW9 as it will be my main carry piece. I'm looking forward to owning a Kahr, they fit very well in my hands and are beautiful guns. I'll keep you updated on how things go.

what fulton 722 stated is dead on. shoot the gun, they come with a 7- 7.5# trigger in them very reasonable, certainly not hairy. U will have no issues with it BUT if u want u can go to wolffs gunsprings and order their 5# striker spring. It only changtes trigger poundage, not triggerr length. It is a super drop in thing to. I personally love it, but I would recommend first u get acquainted with the gun. 90% leave them alone as it is really not needed, but is available. Go to the kahr tech section ahd hit on two great sticky's that willhelp u alot to

#2 Propper prepping of ur new kahr.

So many new people over think their new guns before they even own them....don't fall into that trap. It only matters what you think of your gun. Get it hold it clean it good. Take it to the range.......after you clean it, shoot it and see what you think. The CW9 is very accurate and very reliable. It is not a LCR, it is long but it is smooth. Enjoy what you have before you worry about what you should do.

Hope your CW9 turns out to be the perfect gun for you.

IMHO, if the gun is for HD or SD leave the trigger alone, it is fine just the way it is, or get a different gun with a trigger more to your liking. If it is going to be a range or back yard plinker gun then have at it. Again, just my opinion.

CW9 Trigger Pull Weight

My experience with Kahr triggers is that the weight is a non issue. The trigger is long and even from start to finish! I have never been aware of the pull weight. I had little previous double action trigger time, but know that the Kahr trigger out of the box beats other unrefined double action triggers.

You may need to practice with the Kahr trigger, I did, but I consider my CW9 to be the best all around carry pistol in my meager collection!

I can empathize! I too enjoy the thinking, planning and analyzing. Yet, when it comes right down to it, I generally don't modify my weapons all that much. I try to spend as much time shooting my SD weapons as I can. Through that, I gain familiarity. Through familiarity, I gain confidence that, in the event of a situation that requires their use, my reactions will be primarily muscle memory-based.

With that said, I have the 5 lb spring in my CW40. I can't say that it makes a ton of difference for me personally. I don't feel that it makes the gun unsafe to carry. It's not like it's now a "hair trigger". YMMV

Pretty much what Mudinyeri said. I put the 5# spring in my PM45. I used a trigger pull gauge prior to the change and my trigger was on the light end of the factory spread, high 6's, low 7's average.

The 5# spring did lower the pull and after some time it may reduce a bit more, I need to apply the gauge again to confirm.

All that being said my finger would have a very difficult time telling which spring is in there. It's definitely just as safe, exactly the same length of pull etc.

I like it and I'm glad I did it but it's not a mountain of difference.

I have a trigger pull gauge on order. Didn't think about testing my CW9 with it.
Now I will. Just waiting on it.

I agree though, it's the smoothest trigger I've had even if it's not as short as some.

bawanna is right, even with the 5# spring in there unless u are one sensitive sob, it is hard to actually tell the difference in the spring weights but it is definitely there. I have a crapoola trgger gauge that varies like the weather, so I can't say for sure what is what or whose on first.. Kahr says their factory triggers come out at 7 to 7.5#, YMMV and after a few hundred rounds even that trigger pull poundage will drop some to my bet in the 6# range, as will the3 5# trigger spring also will drop in the mid 4.5# range. U won't get light strikes from this spring change, as it is not that light at all. I can attest to that with over 32,000 rounds out of my PM9 and the same 5# spring is sitting in the gun..
