  • about to buy cw9 OR cm9...

OK I've pretty much made up my mind to buy a Kahr cw9 OR cm9 as my first semi auto hand gun. I plan on getting my CC permit in the next 6 mo's or so and plan on this being my carry gun. I know if i want to pocket carry CM9 wins but plan on carry IWB....but would be nice to have that option. The CW9 just feels better in my hands and am leaning that way.

Is the recoil on the cm9 much worse than the cw9?

Does the extra barrel length on the CW9 make it a little more accurate?

Is the CW9 a little more reliable with feeding ammo that the CM9?

I've read up on breaking in my new Kahr so I'm just shopping price on the 2 right now and trying to make up my mind which one to get.

    Thanks

Espresso, can't comment on the CM9, but I love my CW9. A little big for pocket carry in my wardrobe, but works great IWB. I have an Uncle Mike's IWB I carry inside the belt but outside the pants. Works great under a summer shirt or a sweater in the winter, and you can shift it around while sitting down, driving for instance. Have a DeSantis with the mag pouch, but I have not carried with it, as the pistol had to go back to Kahr for a minor problem with striker block fit. CW9 is probably the most natural pointing weapon I have owned, and very accurate for what it is. I can blow down 8" steel plates rapid fire all day long at 15 yards or so- plenty good for a defensive weapon. I don't find the recoil objectionable at all. Sights are great- my near vision is not good, but dotting the I is very easy and accurate.

CM9 is a great gun. I bought one a few weeks ago and just love it. Can't comment on the CW9 cuz I don't own one but I do have a CW40 that approx the same size and I wouldn't part with it for nothing.
          Both guns are 100% reliable.

I have a CW9 w/CT Lasergrip and love it. I carry IWB in a Kholster and have gone on 10 mile hikes and forget it is there.. I have a CM9 on order and want it as a pocket gun and BUG for the CW9.. Can share CW9 mags with it..Sometimes I just want something to put in a pocket and CW9 is just a little too big.. I say get the CM9 had that been out when I got the CW9 that is the one I would have picked.. But I had a number of other CCW guns.. Either way you won't go wrong..

I had a CW9 and now have a CM9 so I'll give you my opinion on both:

I know if i want to pocket carry CM9 wins but plan on carry IWB....but would be nice to have that option.
I IWB carry my CM9 just like I did my CW9. the CM9 is a little easier IWB because I appendix carry and the shorter barrel is more comfortable. Haven't pocket carried the CM9 yet

The CW9 just feels better in my hands and am leaning that way.
Agree the CW9 is very comfortable as I have large hands and could wrap all 4 fingers around it. Cant beat that. And that gun is Sweet.

Is the recoil on the cm9 much worse than the cw9?
No. Not any noticable difference for me. both are very smooth.

Does the extra barrel length on the CW9 make it a little more accurate?
Maybe but not much that I have noticed with practice.

Is the CW9 a little more reliable with feeding ammo that the CM9?
My CW9 was FLAWLESS. Couldn't beat it. Still too early to tell with the CM9 but looks good so far.

I've read up on breaking in my new Kahr so I'm just shopping price on the 2 right now and trying to make up my mind which one to get.
If you like or need the grip and the extra size doesn't matter, get the CW9. If you are infatuated with good mouse guns like I am, get the CM9. Either way you'll like both. I do miss my CW9 I traded in but have no complaints about my CM9. Like it too. Weight is not that much different, just the little bit in size.

Here's an idea, Get the CW9 first, and in 6 month get the CM9. You can always trade or sell the CW9 if you can stand to part with it.

Just my opinions. You will enjoy whatever you get. Jet us know which you choose.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I hear good things about the CM9 but I've not shot one. My CW9 has been great in a Kholster IWB holster. If your goal is to carry in your pocket then go with a CM9 but for IWB I'd go with the CW9.

Personally, I'd go the CW9 route first and if you feel the need for a pocket carry then add the CM9.

                Good luck!!

Wow. You're right. It was $366 just 3 weeks ago, and they still have CW40s going for that price now:

Do you think Kahr just raised prices and the CW40s will go up, too, after they have to reorder?

                    Thanks all

I see plenty here that have both and may just have to beg the wife for another down the road.......I just bought my first hand gun 3 mo's ago a Ruger GP 100 .357.

I can see where this is going.,,,,

I bought a coffee grinder and started grinding my own coffee beans and developed a taste for fine coffee.....15 years and $3000 later I have an espresso machine/grinder/home roaster set up that will make Starbucks taste like instant.

                      CW9 or CM9

You say you plan to carry IWB, in that case I would buy the CW9. I think the grip length and extra barrel length make the pistol easier to draw, control and shoot.

I have both pistols and have found the CM9 is easy to carry in a front pocket. I agree with other posts that I would start with the CW9 and add the CM9 later. it is nice to have options, they are both great pistols!

Based on what you have purchased for coffee, you better invest in a big vault for your future guns too .....

oh, and I'll be glad to come shoot with with you whenever you want as that collection starts growing. Enjoy that new hobbie.

My CM9 is flawless after fixing a minor issue. Shoots well, feeds everything. Great for pocket carry. I think it's recoil is a little more compared to P9 I owned last year. (Basically same gun as the CW9) (But I sold my P9)
Now, I'm thinking of adding a CW9 for IWB as I prefer to wrap my pinky around the gun too for a full grip. The CW9 is thinner than my CW45 and holds an additional round. I'd use the Kahr flush baseplates for better concealment. Either that or a Walther PPS 9mm lol

I like having a smaller gun to toss in my pocket when I'm in a hurry and don't want to take the extra minute to put the IWB holster on for my CW40 or .45. That would tip the scales to the CM9 for me. Also like something small and inexpensive enough I can lock in my car for those times I'm in a hurry and forget to arm myself. I've been bad about that lately. Nice to know I have my "car gun" there.
