PM40 magazine failure

Took my new PM40 out today to run a couple of hundred rounds through to break it in. Used American eagle sw40.
I don't think I ever got more than 5 rounds without a jam. After 150 rounds both magazines are fractured down the right side.
Initially the extended magazine wouldn't feed at all. Had to chamber the first round with the short mag then switch to extended mag.
I own quite a few guns and I can't recall ever having this much trouble with one.

I don't believe that this splitting problem is very common. It is very unfortunate that both mags are involved.
Call or e-mail KAHR for replacements. Although I have had NO experience with Kahr customer service with my PM9, others have said that their experience with KSC was very good.

Don't just ask for replacement mags. Tell them in an email about all of the issues and include the pictures. They may want to see the whole gun. IMHO, and I don't know a whole lot, there might be something out of spec with the slide, because it looks like that slide is doing a number on those mags. And the FTFs are probably caused by the same problem. Be matter of fact and polite in your email, and I'll bet they will send you a prepaid FedEx label to send it back. If so, pack it up and you can call for home pickup by FedEx. They'll get it right for you.

I think I will buy another carry mag and toss the extended mag when I get the gun back.
I ordered a PM9 with tritium sights which should be here Tuesday. I will probably just not even mess with the extended mag on that one.

Ask Kahr to trade the extended mag for another carry mag. You might have to pay shipping, but they have been doing that for a lot of people.

Received my PM9 yesterday. Did the new gun prep.
Checked the mags as per the forum. Both were hanging up on the mag catch
Had to take off about 1-2mm off the right front corner of the followers.
Just came in from trying it out. Works like a champ and dead nuts accurate. Really gonna like this one!
Hope my PM40 is as nice as this one when it comes back!!

I don't know about you but I think having to modify a new gun indicates poor quality control,design or a combination of both.

And it seems to be all too common with Kahr pistols.

On another note, a new owner should not have to "rack" their slide 500 times before using the pistol either!!!

I didn't with my PM9 when it was new and it functioned 100% except for splitting two mags on the day one range session.

We do not recommend customers modifying their mags. They are well engineered and made in the USA by the same people who make mags for the biggest firms in the industry. There are hundreds of thousands of the same mags that have been in service for years with no problems. Can an occasional mag have a problem? Of course, but the simple solution is to send it in as you did and we will replace it. Also, function problems that appear to be mag related usually aren't, it's best to send the gun in and let us sort it out.

And that's just what they did with my PM9 and...found nothing wrong with the pistol itself.
