  • CM9 Adjusting the magazine for drop-free operation

............for those who want their mags to drop.

    http://youtu.be/iLBZNQmSFzI

FWIW the reason the mags do not drop is because the manufacturing process that bends the feed lips also leaves the mag somewhat slightly flared near the top. Squeezing the mag in the area shown in the video, eliminates the flare and squares up the magazine within the mag well.

Won't squeezing the sides restrict the movement of the follower inside the mag?

Great video, thanks. Love how just... not bothered you are in your attitude.

I'll have to get around to this at some point soon.

                Jimsea,
Thanks for the simple fix. It worked perfectly. I may tackle sanding down the follower next. I only had one nose dive in my first 100 rounds but if it continues, I'm going for it.

Glad it worked out for you.

FWIW .....a note on sanding the follower, and this is not directed at anyone in particular. While the adjustment of the magazine to drop free is fairly straight forward and "sailor-proof", after experimenting and doing a number of sanding mods to followers, I feel this mod may be beyond the capability of the average person. There are certain parameters that if exceeded, read take too much off in certain areas, then you may be disappointed and not achieve the performance/results that I did in my previous videos. While true, the follower is only $11 if you screw it up, there is some technique involved to get it perfect.

I squeezed my mags in a smooth jaw bench vice with the same results. Thanks for the great video and a good fix.

I have an extra "enhanced" follower that I am going to put out there to forum members who wish to try it, and or replicate it. I'll start another thread in this forum with more details on how to get it.

I bought an extra mag with my CM9. They both hung up out of the box. After I slid the mags rapidly in and out a few hundred times just to burnish everything in (I have a little time on my hands sometimes) one of the mags would pour right out and the other hesitated after sliding out about an inch. Today I took a pair of calipers and did some measuring. The one that hesitated was .002" wider at the top so I squeezed it in a bench vise only enough so they measured the same. Now they both pour right out. Amazing what a couple of thousandths will do in a tight tolerance machine like these pistols are.
