GD 124 +P as well. At about a buck apiece they aren't in my budget for range ammo.
DPX is another flawlessly feeding favorite, but prefer GD for now.

at the range today shooting federal fmj,,no problems,,shot my mag full of hornady critical defense and got stove pipe after 4 rounds,,went back to fmj no problems,,I won't be carrying the critical defense anymore!!any suggestions??

My CM9 definitely prefers Hornady 115gr ZOMBIE MAX, but most of the time I feed it Winchester 124gr +p PDX1....seriously, I did have feeding problems with regular Hornady regular red-tip CD (I think the polymer tip catches on the feed ramp or sumpin') but the Zombie rounds feed perfectly. Better JuJu I guess. Haven't had problems with any other rounds, have fired 124 gr Gold Dots (non +p) and several other brands w/out problems.

The guy at my lgs told me that zombie max was just critical defense with a green tip instead of red. I never bought any zombie max to see if it is true or not though.

I don't get the "For Law Enforcement Only" like the Rangers and HST's. Shouldn't we have the same right to defend ourselves as the cops? And access to the same ammo?

"for law enforcement only" is the manufacturers designation. It does not mean restricted to law enforcement. It simply means that it made specifically for law enforcement to certain specifications and sold under a different stock number. You can still buy it and it is legal to own/use. However, most companies make that same ammo under a different name for general resale to us "common folks"

Not only so, but Federal and other manufacturers give retailers a hard time if they sell any of it to us. Kyle's Gun Shop dodges their swings and continues to find supply sources for the HST 50 round boxes.

No, I'm not LE. You can find them at ammotogo, and Streichers. There may be other sellers as well. I don't think there's any law that says you can't own ammo marked LE. They sold it to me anyway.

I've never understood all the LE only stuff either. I saw a big thread on another forum, I think. It seems to be more of a marketing thing, focusing on the larger orders of LE agencies.

Now my question is, What grain? I was going to go 124 grain because it's closer to the 115 FMJ I practice with. But I've been reading, and the 147 grain seems more popular. Will they fly about the same as the 115 grains I practice with? Especially at close ranges... Of course I would shoot some rounds to find out before I trusted them for my everyday carry.

I go with 124 grain...not sure but I think I read somewhere that it's generally faster out of short-barreled handguns and thus maybe more reliable expansion...but I've never tested ammo for speed or expansion.

124 grain for this ol timer, one reason there is more choices in 124 grain ammo and it does seem to be the round of choice as past surverys have shown. Kahr test fires with 124 grain if that means anythinng. I have shot some 115 and 147 fmj wwb at 7 yards and for me the print about the same, for me which is bqasically all over the fokking target..

They were both about the same. The 124gr seemed hotter.
