  • Another day at the range- CM9 - "mostly" perfect, Inputs wanted

Another day at the range with my CM9 and my M&P 45C

I usually practice a "split" drill when I go at the outdoor range

We set 3 targets up in parallel each a foot and a half from each other.

We have shooting 3 "spots" firing one shot at the farthest target, then moving to the second spot then firing at the second, then moving to the
3rd spot and firing at the last target.

Sort of a competition, that trains a shooter to shoot and move quickly.
(We also have a little competition between my friends and I for accuracy)

I have always believed shooting hours and hours at a paper target where neither the shooter or the target move, isnt the best practice for those that have chosen to legally conceal carry.

    So..... on to the CM9.

This pistol is VERY accurate. It feels great in the hand.

My last trip out, I had a few issues with premature slide lock back.

This trip, I had it happen much less. (two times out of 150 rounds)

After the last trip, and after I spoke to Kahr, I filed the edge of the slide stop that was impacting the bullet, causing the slide to pop up, mid mag.

I will probably take a little bit more off, to see if this makes the difference.

One thing I found is that when I cycle my pistol, (both using the slide stop or the slingshot method, the 2nd round sometimes is as much as 3/8 inch forward.

After looking at the follower modification that some have completed, I wonder if this would make this less likely to happen, as the 1st and 2nd bullet would then have more surface area matched up between the bullets.

At the angle the mag has today, the back of the 1st and 2nd bullets touch, but the surface area is very small, which in my mind, may allow the 2nd bullet slide further forward.

    Thoughts??

I still love this gun, when my pistol locks back, its quick to swipe the slide stop and it always goes into battery. Not a FTF, not a FTE, but still not wanted.

As one of my carry pistols, I want both to be 100%

My M&P is 100% as I have had 0 failures

My Kahr is 98%, still needs to go 100 rounds with no slide lockback

The second bullet slides a little further than subsequent bullets do because of the tension of the mag spring lessening as the mag empties. But that sliding forward is normal. Greg or someone who has done some follower mods can tell you if that helps. Also, some people have closed the mag lips a little bit, which helps keep the top round in the spare mag and helps control the bullet path when loading.

I'll let sharper minds than me chime in here.
    Very interesting...

if any rounds are hitting the inside of the slide stop YOU WILLGET LOCK BACK. that is a no-no asu already know. U can do as whatu are doing by slowly filing back a tad bit of metal to get clearanc.e I would not suggest doing it if it is not hitti8ng. close is OK, touching is not. Kahr would probalbys end u a new slide stop lever if this is an issue to. If it is callthem and ad ask for Jay and explain and see what he want sto do. If he says they will send u a new slide stop, then IMO I would now file back a tad on ur slide stop, as u have a new spare on the way . This is not an uncommon occuracne in semi's either. I had 3 slide stops replaced on my Para carry 9 (1911 style) before it got right.

The bullet moving forward is normal for kahr mags, it hurts nadda. some have tightened up the feed lips somewhat to eliminate alot of it but I go by te theory that IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. Buyt that is ur choice to. It does not effect functioning.
Be very consci0os of your thumb not accidently hitting the slide stop lever and pre engaging it. A copuple times out of 150 rounds to me does not look like roundsitting the slide stop on the inside. To loose of that little springhy o the slide stop can also cause premature sldie stop but again I would not address that area until all else fails to worki. Possably more rounds down range and things will take care of itself. U know what to look for to, so just shoot it like u stole it and get back to us after a few more sessions..
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Glad to hear that you pleased with your 45c also. Am considering one as my next purchase. Great little .45.

M&P 45c is a great pistol, it's my main carry for the moment.

IMHO, its the best of both worlds

An awesome 45 when attire permits, and a pocket carry for other times
